Alan Oldham

Detroit Metro Times and Real Detroit/Mixworks 20/20 Award-winning international techno DJ and electronic musician born and raised in the 313 (beware of suburbanites trying to claim the 313; ever since "8 Mile" came out they've been trying so hard it's laughable). Left Detroit for good back in 2004 and now I'm having the time of my life living in both Chicago and Berlin and touring around the world.

Known aliases: DJ T-1000, X-313, TXC, Signal to Noise Ratio, Hardsignal, Detroitrocketscience, The Neon Sex Fiend, The Inside and more. I'm perhaps best known for my Tresor Berlin album "Progress."

First-ever UR "Assault DJ." Early alliance with Submerge and Mad Mike (who along with Jeff Mills got me started in the techno business). Owner of the Generator label (which put out the first Marco Passarani and Sean Deason records), as well as Pure Sonik Records and my CD-only, lowtempo label xfive. I also did a label a long time ago called Technika and discovered the Black industrial band Code Industry.

I also used to be a radio personality in a former life, hosting Detroit's first-ever EBM/electronic music program "Fast Forward" for five years on WDET-FM 101.9. My show made local legends out of many of the early Detroit Techno artists and exposed urban Detroit to Industrial/EBM and other styles of electronic music. Episodes are floating around out there on MP3.

Teamed with Pop Culture Media to help produce the 2002 edition of the DEMF, which culminated in record-breaking attendance and Dave Clarke's triumphant return to America among other musical highlights.

I have been featured and quoted in such books as "The Rough Guide to Techno," "Techno Rebels," "Beats," "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life," "Djax-Up-Beats: The Power of the Underground," "Localizer 1.0", and Japan's "Techno: Black Machine Music and Galactic Soul," and "Techno Disc Guide." I am also featured in the films "High Tech Soul," "Tresor: The Vault," and had a 2007 feature in "Slices" DVD magazine.

As an illustrator, I've worked for label clients Transmat, Djax-Up-Beats, Astralwerks, +8, New Religion, Seventh Sign, AW Recordings, and many others. I've also put out my own comic books in the '80s and '90s like JOHNNY GAMBIT, GENERATOR COMICS, and THE SEXY ADVENTURES OF ORIETTA ST. CLOUD.

I've had successful gallery shows at the Open Door Gallery and the No Friction Cafe in Chicago, Le Fromager Gallery/Restaurant in Paris, the Crewest Gallery in Los Angeles, and Galerie Zero in Berlin. I've also done a number of private commissions for clients in the UK and USA. Not taking any new art commissions right now due to workload!
