Alan Thompson

As an international DJ, Producer, and Broadcaster, Alan has made his mark on the finest clubs in the world, has platinum and top 40 singles and albums around the globe, has hosted a variety of radio and tv shows and has been a mile high dj in the skies for Virgin Atlantic.

Alan's ever evolving style has led to him being repeatedly voted the number one dj in the UK, and one of the top djs in the world by clubbers and media alike.

While Thompson has proved his versatility and can adapt his sound to suit the occasion, he’s best known for his own unique style of undulating funky house.

As Alan puts it, “I play 4 to the floor house music, sometimes deep, sometimes vocal and sometimes tribal but always funky… House music should be sexy, it should make you want to swing your hips and nod your head. I like to build my sets, drop a groove then come back with a big vocal. Clubbing is about having a good time, listening and dancing to good house music. My job as a dj is to make sure that happens.”

It’s a job Alan does very well. As well as his residencies at Trade and DTPM, which he held for more than 10 years, Thompson has also been resident DJ at Defected and Ministry of Sound in London and Ibiza, The End in London, and Le Queen in Paris.

Alan is considered instrumental in the success of many of these clubs, which have received a number of accolades, including club of the year. He has also helped raise the club’s profiles outside the UK by headlining their world tours.

As well as all of his residencies, Thompson has been guest dj at some of the biggest and best clubs in the world including Twilo (New York), Gods Kitchen (UK), Space, Pacha, Amnesia, Privilege, and El Divino (Ibiza), Zouk (Singapore) Ageha (Tokyo) Salvation and Groove Jet (Miami), 3-30 (Durban), Allenby 58 (Tel Aviv) and Guvernment (Toronto).

Alan is as busy in the studio as he is on the decks, having released and remixed more than 45 singles and 10 albums around the world. Not only has he released platinum and top 40 singles, he’s compiled and mixed for the cream of the industry, including DTPM and Trust The DJ, with a number of his own mixed CDs being voted “album of the month” in music magazines.

With so many residencies, international bookings, and recording time in the studio, it’s surprising Alan has had time to enjoy hosting radio and tv programmes. But the man has not only found a way to present his own show, “A Month In House” on the Ministry of Sound network, he has also appeared on Kiss FM and the BBC’s Radio 1, not to mention presenting MTV Asia, Europe, and South Africa and Channel V in Australia, just to name a few.

He has also made his way onto the big screen, appearing in the movie “Maestro” as one of the UK pioneers of house music alongside Pete Tong and Danny Rampling.

Alan Thompson has earned the title international dj not only with the music he plays, but the many countries he has played in, including Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, China, Denmark, Estonia, France, Finland, Germany, Greece, Holland, Hong Kong, Italy, Israel, Japan, Latvia, Lebanon, Malaysia, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, South Korea, Switzerland, Thailand, the length and breadth of the USA and many more.

Thompson’s pioneering spirit has recently seen him make the move to Australia. While the decision to leave the UK has shocked many in the industry, Alan says living in Sydney won’t interfere in his work. “At the end of the day I’m an international dj â€" my work takes me all over the world. So being in Sydney is no different to being in London, except being here opens up another part of the world. Australasia is the only region where clubs are still opening at a great rate. The dance scene across Australia and Asia is exploding, and I’m excited to be a part of that.”

Alan is happiest when he’s behind the decks playing house music to like minded people. He thrives on the way a good nightclub can take people from all walks of life and turn them into a family, and looks forward to building new residencies in Australia, even as he continues to play internationally. Good news for house music fans in London and around the world, and for Australian clubbers, who are celebrating having one of the world’s best djs in their own backyard.
