Almost every DJ comes from humble beginnings, and Andres is a perfect example of this. Born in Bogota, Colombia in 1978, Andres Escallon grew up surrounded by the sounds and rhythms of traditional Colombian Salsa, Vallenato and Bambuco. His father, an avid music collector, helped expand Andres's taste by exposing him to everything from classic rock, to punk, new wave and british synth pop. It's these sounds that helped forge Andres's love for music at a very young age.
Andres discovered a passion for electronic music which quickly developed into a passion for DJ'ing. In October of 2001 he took to the airwaves and joined Proton Radio, ready to share his music with listeners around the globe. His radio show "Perceptions" was one of the first regular shows on Proton Radio and remains on the air to this day. "Perceptions" airs every 2nd monday of each month and has become Proton Radio's longest running show.
Andres's radio show helped him receive recognition as a DJ in Boston, and in the summer of 2002 he landed his first premier club gig at Boston's notorious Roxy nightclub. In the following year Andres teamed up with fellow DJ's Dave Wagz and Scott MacLeod forming the trio known as "Deklab" and were offered their first residency at Boston's Venu, nightclub. After a short run at Venu, "Deklab" was approached by John Debo and invited to start a new night at the Infamous Axis nightclub, giving birth to "Square One Thursdays". His monthly sets at Square One with Dave and Scott made a huge impact on the Boston scene, and within a few short months Andres found himself playing at Avalon, sharing the decks with Ali Ajami John Debo and Sasha.
In the years following his success at Axis, Andres began to work with Rise, Boston's only afterhours nightclub. Working together with Rise, Andres went back to his roots and launched a series of parties entitled "Proton Sessions: Boston". Between 2006 and 2010, Andres, Rise and Proton Radio have thrown several parties bringing artists to Boston from Proton Radio's talented DJ pool, as well as established artists in the industry. Andres currently holds a residency at Rise.
In his 10 year DJ career, Andres has gone on to play successful gigs in New York City, Montreal, Miami, Bogota, Lima and is a regular feature a different events in Boston.
