Chris James is a DJ and Producer based in Birmingham, UK.
Emerging from obscurity in early 2005, Chris hit the UK club scene after several years successfully pioneering popular regional radio shows; his skill as DJ and selector quickly earned him residencies at some of Birmingham's most important House nights.
With his recognition swiftly snowballing, it wasn't long before Chris was hitting the decks around the nation, and even as far afield as Ibiza and Australia. His exploits have earned him sets at clubs such as Ministry of Sound, Turnmills, Face, Empire and Monastery to name but a few.
Having been a hobby producer for some time, Chris began to focus seriously on his production in early 2008, and his tracks can now be found in the CD wallets of DJs such as Claude VonStroke, Jesse Rose, Derrick Carter, Justin Martin, Steve Bug, Seth Troxler, Tiefschwarz, Ellen Allien, Lee Curtiss, Richy Ahmed, Andre Crom, Dj T, Jamie Anderson, Robert Dietz, Riva Starr, Round Table Knights, Worthy, Nic Fanciulli, Catz N Dogz and many, many more.
With releases on labels including; Off Recordings, Get Physical, Gruuv, Anabatic and ALiVE, Chris James is proving to be a heavy hitter in the realm of the up and coming DJ/Producer, and is propped by many to be one to watch.
Chris's Off EP stormed the house charts & "On & On" the A-side managed to climb to 11th spot on the Beatport Deep House Chart. This release also helped Off Recordings maintain their position within the Top 20 Charted Labels for March 2012 on Resident Advisor. The record also came in the Top 50 Charted House Records for March 2012 In At Position 24. This was on the back of his Semester EP release featuring the legendary; Egyptian Lover.
Chris joined forces with Bristol heavy-weight Eats Everything early 2011 with their ‘Coat Of Arms’ side project gaining widespread praise with ‘Is This Something’ signed to Jamie Jones’ Fabric Mix Compilation from Bristol’s fledgling Futureboogie label. This along with a number of tracks including Top 5 Hit "What You Need" on Pets Recordings and their epic take on Viadrina's - Luna for Your Mama's Friend, had left these guys with a project that can take them into the realms of the unknown and beyond. Chris has taken the project on solo going into 2013, hoping to deliver the same output that has seen the Coat Of Arms project thrust into the spotlight.
Chris doesn't stop there, deciding to take on another alias with long time friend Lee Dearn, under the guise ‘Purple Velvet’, which has so far showed promise with releases out on Exploited and more to come on Dirt Crew & Kindisch.
Chris James is set to have a busy 2012/ 2013; with several residencies under his belt, playing with the likes of Jesse Rose, Justin Martin, Eats Everything, Julio Bashmore, Huxley, Zombie Disco Squad, Mary Anne Hobbs, Roska, Ramadanman, Burnski and others, increasing his demand both nationally as well as across the globe, it is time to take note.
