Christian Prommer

Munich based American Producer/DJ Christian Prommer began experimenting with beats and electronics in the late 80's when still at school studying drums. While being a professional drummer in the early nineties he always experimented with sampling and beatboxes to go with his drumming. This led to replacing the drums by an Akai sampler and an MPC60 drum machine. A few techno records for labels like Virgin or Bonzai followed.

Then in 1993 he teamed up with DJ Roland Appel and started to produce records as Fauna Flash. The first release on Compost Records came out around 1994. In the beginning Fauna Flash made a mark as Drum and Bass outfit, beeing played by DJs like Peshay, Fabio, Grooverider. The two played live around Europe as a very energetic duo. Albums (“Aquarius” and “Fusion”) and many remixes followed until now. Their Style has evolved into a deeper housier approach.

1996 DJ Rainer Trüby joined the production to form the Trüby Trio. Latin beatz and more diverse tracks for the dancefloor became the mission and many remixes followed. Their debut album "Elevator Music" was released in 2003 on Compost Records. With the much anticipated Track "A Gogo" that found its way onto many compilations, commercials and movie scores. Djing with the Trüby Trio brought Christian Prommer to countries like the US, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico and all over Europe.

Christian Prommer’s productions with Fauna Flash and the Trüby Trio defined what became the "Sound of Compost Records" in the past decade.

While still touring the world as DJ playing at locations like Fabric/London, Montreux Jazzfestival, Cielo-DeepSpace/NYC, Weekend/Berlin, WMC/Miami and many more he started working on material for the Drumlesson project which brings him back to his origin: the DRUMS.

The music for this project is driven and composed from and by the drums. Using them as the main inspiration was a new era for the beatprogramming/MPC-using producer. Playing the instrument opens new dimensions to the composition of the tracks that get much more of a spiritual vibe than the sampling way. Playing with musicians and messing around with these tracks later is something that had to happen at one point, never losing touch with the instrument.

All this leads to the release of Christian Prommer’s solo-debut on Berlin label Sonar Kollektiv: Christian Prommer’s Drumlesson Vol. 1 & 2. Vol.1 was released in early 2008.Vol. 2 will follow late 2008 / early 2009
