Claire Ripley was born on a small island in Kent, England. From her early teens she would spend hours listening to artists like The Shamen, Massive Attack, Underworld, Sasha and Digweed, always searching for a sound unlike the kind of music popular in her hometown.
Obsessed with underground dance music and a desire to experience something different, Claire began weekly pilgrimages to London clubs like Club UK, Fabric, Turnmills, Hanover Grand and The End, as well as numerous trips to Ibiza. After ten years dedication to house and techno and finding inspiration from a number of legendary DJs and producers, she decided to ask her friend Richard Belsom to teach her everything he knew about djing and producing music.
After a year of dedicated study she experienced immediate success with her first demo and productions being given DJ Mag Top Pick, describing her work as "very impressive stuff". Previous DJ sets have included playing at London clubs such as The Key, The Aquarium, Babalou and Hidden as well as a local residencies for Phobic, the night to accompany the label run by Claire and Richard Belsom.
In June 2008 Claire Ripley founded Phobic Records together with Richard Belsom. Their view is to showcase some of the worlds greatest undiscovered talent alongside some of the worlds finest established artists from the Deep House, Tech House and Techno scene both on the label and at worldwide club events.
Claire describes her sound as ranging from laid back deep hypnotic beats through to acid riffs with driving basslines. During her DJ sets she likes to showcase the finest underground music ranging from deep house, tech house, minimal and techno.
May 2009 sees the release of Rebekah‘s Deluded EP on Phobic Records featuring a remix by Claire Ripley. In addition to this, Claire has had her first EP signed to Steve Bug‘s highly respected Dessous Recordings, a great achievement by anyones standards, particularly for a new producer.
