Originally a keyboard player, Dan was playing six nights a week in his hometown of Chicago by the age of 16. He entered the New England Conservatory of Music in 1993 and quickly immersed himself in the worlds of jazz, funk and soul. While at NEC, he studied with such jazz greats as Danilo Perez, Cecil Mcbee and George Russell. Dan co-founded "The Daddys", a funk band which won numerous awards and gained a loyal fan base in the Boston area. "The Rockett Band" was a second project that took off locally, but after two self-released albums and selling out venues in Boston, New York, Providence, and Portland, Dan left the band to pursue a solo career. As his interests turned more to house, dub and electronic music, he went to London to study production and immersed himself in the UK's forward thinking music scene. Since then Dan has released tracks on Mood Music, Movim, Exun, Gourmet, Household, and has upcoming releases on Poker Flat, Crosstown Rebels, and several more. His deep electronic house finds its way into the boxes of countless DJs across the globe. Look out for Dan Berkson and James What LIVE!!
