One of the most influential figures of modern dance music, Darren has been DJing in clubs since the tender age of sixteen and teamed up with Rick Smith and Karl Hyde in 1991 to form Underworld.
Darren's influence on the duo's sound provided an innovative edge that propelled the group to the forefront of the dance scene and into the charts. They released the albums Dubnobasswithmyheadmanand Second Toughest in the Infants to immense critical acclaim but it was with the Born Slippy'single that they truly hit the big-time. On it's re-release in 1996 ; it sold over 500,000 copies in the UK alone and reached number two in the charts. Darren parted company with the group shortly after the release of their Beaucoup Fish album in order to concentrate on his DJ career once more and on the development of his Underwater Records label.
Darren didn't take too long to re-establish himself as a tech-house heavyweight : the release of his 'Uruguay' mix for the Global Underground series proved he was back to doing what he does best. A second mix for the GU series came last year from Singapore - and with tracks from talented artists such as Inland Knights, Slam, DJ Sneak and Laurent Garnier all present, it showcased Darren's sound perfectly. His party-wise selection of deep house and funky techno cuts is a sound that's simply irresistable!
