Hailing from London in the U.K Duncan Stephenson, aka Das Funkt, moved to Fukuoka Japan in December 2007 with the aim of introducing his music to a wider audience.

Beginning his affair with dance music by frequenting the clubs of Brighton he could be found every weekend [and often on weeknights too!] bugging out to the sounds of drum ‘n’ bass, house and techno. It wasn’t too long before he was pulled to the other side of the decks and started learning how to mix the tunes that had brought him so much joy as a clubber.

A move to London in 2000 for university study enabled Das to explore the huge and varied club scene offered by the city whilst honing his tastes for house and techno music. It wasn’t long before he found a regular residency at the Alwyne in Islington North London where he played every Friday and Saturday for just over a year. The experience he gained from this period gave him the confidence to set up his own promotion ‘Kind of Fun’ in 2004 with his friend and fellow DJ, Mik T. Starting life in the upstairs of an East London pub the monthly night quickly gained a loyal following due to it’s unpretentious atmosphere, crazy themes and of course quality music. Running for 3 years the night was forced to move venues twice to its growing popularity. As well as the regular monthly fixtures, Das, Mik and the crew also threw special one offs in varied locations such as warehouses, a boat and a field in the Sussex countryside for the hugely popular annual summer party.

It was during his involvement with Kind of Fun, where he would play at every different stage of the night, that he developed his skill to entertain differing crowds and cater his music for various tastes. Hugely diverse he reaches primarily into the genres of house, techno and electro whilst keeping the music focused firmly on the dance floor. Always physical behind the decks with a huge smile on his face Das is the kind of DJ who likes to party with crowd whilst keeping a close watch to ensure the music he plays is tailored for their enjoyment.

On arrival in Japan he immediately went about gaining gigs with his first major appearance being at Air in Tenjin where he warmed up for techno godfather Derrick May. Steadily spreading the word he has also played gigs in Kumamoto, Tosu and Kurume. He is now looking for a regular residency in Fukuoka where he can introduce his new audience to the freshest sounds from his record box and with a bit of luck, build up a reputation as one of the city’s top party starters.
