Duane Harriott guestimates that his musical journey began at the age of two: according to his father, Duane was immediately attracted to the sound of Bob Marley coming from the family's hi-fi system... and it's been all downhill ever since.

Born into a musical family, Harriott's most formative years were spent growing up in New York. Early on, Duane was consumed with absorbing as many different genres of music as possible. At the age of eight, young Duane was selling custom mixtapes to friends and classmates. By the age of 14, Duane had relocated to the Midwest and immediately became the youngest DJ on the airwaves in the state of Nebraska. After honing his DJing and mixing skills on the radio, Duane began to study and compile an extensive knowledge of jazz and soul rarities while DJing local parties. While attending Hastings College, Duane became the college station's Music Director during his freshman year, and held on to the position for all four years of his college tenure. During that period, he established the station as one of the most diverse and cutting-edge in America, while organizing local concerts for a number of national artists, including Pavement, Weezer, and Superchunk.

Upon graduation, Harriott moved to New York City and became the Showcase Manager for the prestigious CMJ Music Marathon, as well as a staff writer for CMJ's popular monthly magazine (additionally, Duane also was a regular contributor to a number of well-known magazines, including Vibe and The Source).

In 1996, Duane joined the staff as a manager and buyer at Other Music, New York's esteemed and trend-setting independent record shop, and can still be found there daily, dropping knowledge on fellow staff members, customers, and devoted clients (including Bjork, The Black Crowe's Chris Robinson, Robin Williams, Depeche Mode's Dave Gahan, Fab Five Freddy, and many more) alike.

Duane is a founding resident of the hugely-popular Negroclash party at NYC's APT, and also spins at a number of esteemed nightlife destinations in the US and abroad.
