NICOL (A British Physicist W. Nicol born 1828) - Inventor of the first polarizing prism, an optical device used to generate a beam of polarized light.
In the inspirational work of the British Scientist NICOL, Samuel Kindermann, Hamburg based songwriter and producer of highly respected electro act EINMUSIK found his alias in 2001. After working extensively for 7 years as a DJ/producer in the local Drum'n'bass scene under the guises of SERIOUSLY TIGHT (Syncopix Rec. / Form Rec. 2001), NICOL took a break to search for a new development in his sound, pulling extensively from his past influences and industry experience. It was at time that the artist was in the midst of defining his own unique vision of what club music meant to him. A man of many trades, NICOL has also put the sonic prowess of his formidable engineering chops over many well known productions under the name SERIOUSLY TIGHT in recent years.
Around his early years as DJ/producer NICOL hooked up with local DJ BASTIAN EL ZOHBI (aka CRANQUE) and his partner PELLE BUYS, forming EINMUSIK, a project that would go onto become an institution in the International Electro scene. Not only were the guys good mates, but they also formed a tight production team powered by NICOL's production know how and the combined DJ experience and network of Basti and Pelle in the local scene. The project served as the perfect exchange of talents.
After one and a half years of intensive studio work, the team found a platform for their music in ITALIC, a very well established Cologne based label that excels in quality electro. This was a massive opportunity and the boys could not have wished for a better introduction into the industry and chance to get their music out through the right channels. They didn't have to wait long to get noticed in a big way. In the summer of 2003, their 12-inch debut WEEKENDER was picked up by MINISTRY OF SOUND's NEUE HEIMAT compilation series.
Well known for their work ethic, the boys hit the studio again and released follow up tracks on labels such as WHIZKIDS, LIEBE|DETAIL, quickly forming a reputation as a one of the top acts favoured by those strictly in the know in the industry. It was however their next famed release JITTERY HERITAGE (Italic 044) that caught the attention of the international scene by surprise and went truly global. In the summer of 2004 and winter 2005 you simply could not out without hearing this track ... it was everywhere. Remix duties where quick to follow, including work for ROCCO BRANCO aka DOMINIK EULBERG, COBURN and EGOEXPRESS and production for JAKE. The EINMUSIK live debut followed shortly after with a massive set at the MAYDAY festival in 2006.
Late in 2005 NICOL began focusing also on other projects, developing his work as a songwriter and producer for other artists. Projects such as the German SENSATION WHITE anthem in 2005 were soon to follow. In 2006 NICOL also produced the KAROTTE remix of the MOGUAI SENSATION WHITE anthem that spent no less than10 weeks at Nr.1 on the DDC (German Dance Charts), a rather fat achievement. NICOL also found time to mix and engineer productions for well established house combo KNEE DEEP and Australian new Jazz musician and producer SIMON GREY. Following the successes of the previous years, CRANQUE and PELLE BUYS also started to focus on their own projects and the three finally went separate ways. PELLE BUYS went solo under his own name and also under the project name of ERROR ERROR together with DENIS KARIMANI (aka REMUTE).
For CRANQUE the time had come at the end of 2006 to start his own label project called MODUS OPERANDI with one of the guys of the production team GEBRÜDER TON. After casually pumping out another two number one remixes for SOFFY O and IAN O'BRIEN DOCKER in 2006 , three MODUS OPERANDI releases and the superb HALF MOON TIGER EP (ITALIC 066) early in 2007, the long awaited EINMUSIK debut double album DE' MEDICI will coming out this autumn also through ITALIC. The album will loaded with 20 tracks that display EINMUSIK's musical resume over the past 6 years and promises to be a manifest of all the influences and developments of the EINMUSIK sound. Listeners should expect something in the realm of MINIMAL POP and BOMBASTIC TECHNO, according to the man himself. The first 12-inch Single release taken from the album is the title track DE' MEDICI.
Not only will the new album underline EINMUSIK's already formidable international reputation, but the tour in autumn/winter 2007/8 will certainly prove to be a must for all lovers of quality electronic music.
