The formative years of every young producer’s career are spent laying solid foundations – however in James Barnsley’s case, quite literally. As the owner of Leeds’ Myhouse - the club voted in a poll by DJ Mag as the UK’s best small club, James built the dance floor and terrace with his own two hands. Providing his hometown with a legendary and staple house music venue is a weekly labour of love, and testament to his dedication to the scene. His talents, however, do not stop there – as a DJ he serves straight up house, and his techy, energy-filled sets can be found regularly smashing the main rooms of his residencies at the respected Back to Basics, the UK’s longest running weekly club night, Middlesbrough’s *Riff Raff and his own night Whalebow, Basics official afterparty. An obsession with production began in 2007, and subsequent years have seen James holed up in his loft studio. His first release Acid Tambourine on the Leeds based Breakout Audio has gathered plays from Phonique, Josh Wink and Steve Bug, with the latter licensing it for his forthcoming NRK compilation. James next release ‘To Me’ is a druggy house stormer and comes in late 2009. Listing his most enjoyed gigs as at Basics, and Mulletover, James has played alongside Josh Wink, Einzelkind and Rozzo and Hector to name a few, and now having fastened down the foundations, anticipates the unfolding of his own musical fable.
