Go BackJames Belias
From: AUSTRALIA
James Belias

Musically in the club, James Belias always wants to make the floor move, and he can do it in subtle and fresh ways. The girls are always moving and the more discerning clubbers are happy to give a nod of approval. He captures the spirit and vibe of House Music perfectly, always playing lots of vocals, funky instrumentals and plenty of percussion. Oh, and some disco too.

James has been doing his musical thing in the clubs for about 6 years. He cites the expansion of the Internet as a massive factor, all of a sudden being exposed to new styles of music you just didn't hear on the radio. Getting out of high school and into uni was a massive lifestyle change, along with discovering Kerri Chandler and Masters At Work at that time.

"I never really went to clubs until I was around 20, I figured I wasn't going to hear the deep house that I was so into at the time. I used to do a radio show at Uni, but we definitely were not playing electronic stuff. Slowly I started accumulating a collection and I started venturing into record stores and simply collecting deep house and garage records."

At Monash University, James was the Music Section Editor of the student paper Lots' Wife for two years. He also contributed music reviews and international DJ interviews to the 12am.com.au and thescene.com.au websites.

Currently James is a resident at Marrakech Fridays, along with Eve and Alumbra on Saturdays. Past residencies include Defected In The House @ Seven, Boutique, Q Bar, The Saint, Room680, Ocean Blue and Candy Bar. He's played elsewhere in the country, having rocked Perth, Adelaide and Newcastle in recent times. He's also played on bills with Roger Sanchez, DJ Spen, Derrick Carter, Jay J, Ben Watt, DJ Sneak, Jaques Lu Cont, Greenskeepers, Sandy Rivera, DJ Gregory, Felix Da House Cat, Stacy Pullen, Hardsoul, Sandy Rivera, Soul Central, ATFC and loads more.

Mid-2004 had James impressing judges DJ Tiesto and Pete Tong as a Victorian finalist in Heineken's global Found At Thirst DJ competition. A trip to Europe later that year saw him playing in the Greek Islands (Rhodes and Mykonos) as well as Athens and several clubs in Switzerland.

2006 saw further European travels, and an expansion of gigs and contacts across Europe including further gigs in Greece (Rhodes, Zakinthos, Zaharo and Athens) as well as Basel (Switzerland) and Oslo (Norway).
