Jnr J

Ask just about anyone on London's club scene and they'll tell you Jnr J has a fearsome reputation for rockin' the house. In fact, he's one of the hottest new talents to emerge in recent months combining flair, energy and technique in abundance; now he's poised to take his sound and style to a wider audience both as a DJ and a producer.

The Jnr J story begins when he and his brother bought their first piece of vinyl as teenagers checking out the record shops of Soho. It wasn't long before he had mastered the art of mixing and his early mix tapes were soon being circulated among friends. It helped that Jnr was a confirmed clubber himself, of course, with his finger firmly on the pulse of the underground, and that soon translated into his first bookings across the capital. He's also built up a solid fan base taking it with him from his early days cutting his teeth at house parties through to taking the big clubs by storm.

It wasn't long before his potential was spotted by renowned London promoters Throb and they joined forces to create Jnr's Jamm at the warehouse-style JAMM venue in Brixton. South London born and bred himself, it proved the perfect place for Jnr to play his filthiest records and invite along his favourite producers to join him behind the decks. We're talking King Roc, Mike Monday, Luke Dzierzek, Sébastien Léger and Martijn ten Velden so far, and after several successful parties Jnr's Jamm is poised to move to a larger venue.

As his reputation spread, Jnr soon found his services in demand elsewhere in the UK and on the international circuit including trips to Ibiza, Switzerland, Norway, Poland and Latvia among others. He brings more to the party too with presence and charisma behind the decks to match his technical skills and keen ear for quality music. There's also the small matter of his distinctive antenna hair style, once seen and neither forgotten! Versatility is very much part of the Jnr J equation and he's equally at home playing power-packed electro house in venues like Turnmills, The Cross and the Ministry of Sound, and darker, twisted grooves at underground after hours parties like Redlight.

Alongside Jnr's Jamm you can also find Jnr at his monthly residency with Just the One? at seOne London where he joins regular DJ and production partner Kriss Darang and a host of guests including Harry Choo Choo Romero, Derrick Carter, Paul Woolford and Spirit Catcher. Kriss and Jnr have also recently set up their own label Dévore Recordings and as well as being the A&R force behind the new project, they will be releasing material of their own and have already remixed 'Freakz' by Kid Dub. The duo have also released 'Twisted' on Kinky Vinyl, while forthcoming on Dévore is 'Bad Ass African Drums', a collaboration between Jnr and the Cheshire Catz.

In fact, Jnr is already making serious waves as a producer with remixes of Martijn ten Velden and Alabama 3 forthcoming, while 'The Ghetto Guerilla EP' has just been released on German label Plasmapool. Most notably, his 'White Widow' remix of 'Sex Weed' by Juice String will come out on Roger Sanchez's Stealth imprint soon. It's all happening for Jnr, in other words.
