Jonty Skrufff

Publishing his acclaimed alternative clubs/ music/ counter-culture e-zine and blog Skrufff-E since 2001(available @ http://skrufff.com), Jonty Skrufff is avidly read by many of global club culture's key tastemakers.

"If I read one thing every week about our industry and more, it's Skrufff," Danny Whittle, Director, Pacha Ibiza.

"Skrufff covers the three things I'm most interested in. Music, clubbing and human rights. An excellent mix." Chris Lowe, the Pet Shop Boys, UK

Adding DJing to the mix in 2004, he's since traveled the world several times, spinning at superclubs, festivals and underground parties in 25 countries, everywhere from Japan to Czech Republic and Bosnia to Brazil.

Taking up producing in 2008, his first release (a remix of Lithuanian producer Andy Lau's Keep It Cool) earned the immediate support of Ed Banger chief Pedro Winter ('sounds loud! I like it. I'll play it for sure') and Alex 'Boys Noize' Ridha (''yo Jonty; I like it') while his next remix (of MOTOR's 2009 release Death Rave) gained props from Soulwax and the Chemical Brothers.

"Nice one on the track-the Youtube looks good." Tom Rowlands (Chemical Brothers)

"LOVE Death Rave! Will play it for sure." Soulwax

The ferocious take-no-prisoners techno anthem (dubbed Jonty Skrufff's Revved Up Remix) came out on T Raumschmiere's Shitkatapult in Europe initially, then Steve Aoki's Dim Mak Records in the US and each time was selected as the only Death Rave remix released by each label.

In January 2010, Jonty's remix was singled out by highly respected French independent music organisation Qwartz, who selected it as one of seven nominees for their Best Track of 2009 Award in their 'Dancefloor/ Clubbing' category (selected from 4,077 tracks the judges considered).

Simultaneously teaming up with Judge Jules, the pair created Trainwreck, a pile driving big-room techno slammer which appeared on Jules' 2009 artist album Bring The Noise. The BBC Radio 1 star (a long term supporter of Skrufff) also lent his full backing to Jonty's next remix, of Dare & Haste's Ghost Machine which came out in 2010 on Advanced Recordings.

Jules played the Jonty Skrufff's Gothic Horror Remix' for two weeks running on Radio 1 branding it 'excellent' matching the reactions of DJs including Laurent Garnier ('your remix kicks ass!') and Sasha ('I love your remix, it fits brilliantly into my set') and Mixmag who declared 'dancefloor mayhem. Loving Jonty Skrufff's mix."

Six years since Jonty started DJing, he has headlined many of the world's biggest and best superclubs (including G Plus (China), Opium (Ukraine), Stadium and X2 (both Indonesia) and Roxy (Czech Republic) and held a 12 month residency at London's Fabric (DTPM) and 333, plus a summer residency at Pacha Ibiza (in 2009).

"NEW ARTISTS JOINING PACHA / NUEVOS DJS QUE SE UNEN A PACHA,

"Pacha Ibiza has recruited upcoming electro-punk-tech type JONTY SKRUFFF as a monthly resident DJ for the summer season of 2009, to play in the superclub's renowned GLOBAL Room, the creative heart of the club... where the most experimental genres are heard."

Mixing together an original blend of high-octane alternative electro and techno, he's also toured Brazil seven times (playing regularly at Sao Paulo's coolest clubs Vegas, A Loca and D-Edge) and become a regular at festivals including Exit Festival (Serbia), Summer Of Love (Czech Republic) and Neofest (Bosnia).

"Jonty Skrufff is one of the mythical characters of global club culture, who's renowned for being both an innovative and brave DJ and hugely influential (and bold) journalist." Rajko Bozic, PR Director, Exit Festival, Serbia (December 2008)

Festivals and superclubs aside the eyeliner-loving Brit is also a frequent guest at underground/ mixed clubs and parties in Berlin and beyond and is as comfortable playing to fashion conscious hipsters as he is to the 6,000 Beijing locals who saw him headline the city's first official (western) New Years event in 2007.

In London he produced and presented a weekly radio show on Ministry Of Sound Radio for two years and now presents Germany Calling on new Berlin station BLN.FM (alongside Fidelity Kastrow and Mark Reeder). The show is also broadcast on 88.4FM each month in the Berlin area and is one of the radio station's most popular shows.

He's also joined the Amsterdam Dance Event this year as a consultant and moderator, organizing and hosting panels on Brazil, the state of Global Dance Culture and one on one onstage interviews with Pedro Winter and Tom Tom Club at the hugely prestigious Amsterdam conference.
