Matthias Matty Heilbronn

For most producers and DJ's their biography includes a few stand-out names that they've been fortunate to work with: when you take a look at Matthias Heilbronn's track record, it's more a question of who he has yet to work with. Such is the diversity of his work that it defies strict definitions and straddles numerous genres. From his own original productions, to edits and remixes for some of the biggest names in the music business, Matthias Heilbronn's discography is guaranteed to make you stand up and take notice. With his career already well into a third decade he continues to push the creative envelope; no two productions sounding alike, indeed two recent projects involved remixes of the same track performed by different artists - you could be forgiven for believing they were completely different compositions. As a DJ, Matthias has graced the decks at some of worlds most premiere venues including: London's Ministry of Sound and Fabric; Uks Southport Weekender; New Yorks Cielo, Love and the legendary Palladium, Twilo, Sound Factory Bar and Body & Soul; Paris' Respect Is Burning; Ibiza's Pacha and Space and Tokyo's Yellow & Air. Although renowned amongst heads for his soulful garage house sound, his DJ sets reveal a much broader cross-section of influences, described in Britain's 7 Magazine as a spellbindingly eclectic set where his panoramic journey across often arbitrary musical genres, created a sense of New York, both past and present. Background: After being introduced to underground house music culture when he heard seminal DJ / producer Larry Levan at the legendary Paradise Garage, Matthias relocated from Germany to New York City in order to fully pursue his love of music. Through his job at Axis Studios, he learned engineering, programming and editing under the tutorship of mentor Francois K. He became roommates with house music icon Frankie Knuckles and would soon have the privilege to meet and work with Larry Levan and Tom Moulton. As one of New Yorks most in-demand editors and programmers, Matty worked on songs by Michael Jackson, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Boys II Men and SWV. He also worked with an array of influential house music producers including Danny Tenaglia, Todd Terry, Tommy Musto, C&C Music Factory and Franois K. Matthias teamed up with his partner Mike Delgado and, under the Deep Zone Productions moniker, composing and producing some of the biggest Garage tracks of the time including: Deep Zone feat. Ceybil Jeffries Its Gonna Be Alright, and were also commissioned to provide remixes for artists such as Soul II Soul, Randy Crawford and Crystal Waters. In 1995, he began collaborating with fellow German native Mousse T., producing and remixing tracks for his Peppermint Jam Productions imprint, while remixing for artists like Blueboy, Backstreet Boys & Paid & Live. Whether it's creating his own original productions, remixing established dance artists or retouching the work of pop and R'n'B acts for the majors, Matthias has proved equally adept at hitting the right note. He has produced and remixed for some of the industry heavy-weights with releases on the likes of Z - Records, King Street, MAW, Wave ,Distance, Pokerflat and SAW to name just a few. The list of artists to whose work has received a "makeover" from Matty includes, Jill Scott, Alicia Keys, Ultra Nate, Tom Jones, Bootsy Collins, Anastacia, Ledisi, James Ingram, Loleatta Holloway, Everything But The Girl, Urban Soul, Roy Ayers, Soul II Soul, Byron Stingily and Michael Watford - and that's just the tip of the iceberg. His remixes of Chaka Khan & Mary J. Blidge recently topped Billboard's Dance Chart, at number 1. He currently has two mixes in the Billboard top 20 with Angie Stone & Betty Wright at 4 and Ultra at number 12 with a bullet. Most recently, the launch of his own label, Pata De Perro has allowed Matty room for maneuver on two fronts. The label provides the opportunity to nurture new talent and production teams as well as being a vehicle that allows greater opportunity for creativity in his original productions. 2008 promises to be another memorable year with collaborations already in the pipeline with former Shalamar vocalist Jody Watley, Destiny's Child singers Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, Stevie Nicks and another remix for Ultra Nate, not to mention more original material on Pata de Perro, NRK and MN2S and a follow up to last Years collaboration with Distant Music's Jon Cutler and Traxsource 1 seller "640", entitled "651". Matthias continues to DJ around the globe and spread his signature style and love of music, and his upcoming spring schedule already has him booked for tours in Asia twice and Europe in between.
