
nfluenced by the American and European underground movement, Mau Mau started his DJ career at the legendary Madame Satã club in São Paulo, in 1987. One of the pioneers of the electronic music in Brazil, he was the resident DJ at Sra. Krawitz club and Hell's Club, mythical clubs that were responsible for forming a consistent scene and for disseminating the electronic music in Brazil. Considered the best DJ of Brazil by the media and the audience, Mau Mau is the owner of an individual style and he leads the dance floor with great skill, always in tune with the most updated tendencies. His set is a mix of house and techno, mixed to Brazilian beats and swing. This characteristic took him to participate in Carnaval 2000 in Salvador, Bahia, along with Daniela Mercury, creating the first techno group in the Carnaval of Bahia. Mau Mau regularly performs in many cities in Brazil and is an obligatory presence in all the biggest events of e-music. His international career is also consistent, and he has already performed in different countries as Argentina, Chile, USA, Portugal, France, UK, Germany and Turkey.Mau Mau is also a producer and created two music labels, Tropic Records, which mixes electronic music with elements of Brazilian regional music, and M. Music, through which he releases his EPs. With the M4J project, Mau Mau released two CDS: "Brazilian Experience" - which won the award as revelation group of Brazilian music in 1999, from APCA (São Paulo Association of Arts Reviewers) - and "Folclore Nuts", which had one of its tracks, "Forro com F", released as a single by the British label Joss House, and was nominated by Jockey Slut magazine at the recommended session. His songs were also part of the musical set of radio G (Paris) and famous Kiss FM (London). The song "Capoeira" (M4J - Mau Mau remix) reached third place at Radio Arena MULTIKULT program (Frankfurt).Mau Mau has also mixed and compiled the CDs "Mau Mau Alive" (Fieldzz) and "Hell's Club by Mau Mau" (Fieldzz). He remixed songs from well known Brazilian artists, such as Marina Lima, Kiko Zanbianchi, Edgar Scandurra, Ira!, Rita Lee, Adriana Calcanhoto and Edson Cordeiro. He and DJ and producer Renato Cohen produced the track "So Funky" (Noisemusic). One of the opening themes for Fantastico journalistic TV program (TV Globo) was also remixed by Mau Mau.In 2002, Mau Mau became resident DJ at Open House, an itinerant party in France, and played at club Rex (Paris), in an interchange created between Rex and Technova project (Lov.e club). He also performed as a guest at Techno Parade (Paris) for a 200 thousand crowd. In 2003, Mau Mau toured again in Europe, performing in many cities in France and Belgium, and also at The End, in London, where he was invited to play again in 2004. Also in 2004 he played in France (Cinemix - Paris, Spartacus - Aix en Provence, Nice and Bordeaux) and in Germany (U 60311 - Frankfurt and TV Polar - Berlin), and he toured South America, performing in Argentina (Superclub), Chile (Teletón) and Uruguay (Estacion Central de Trenes - Montevideo). In 2005 he played in Tokyo (Womb) and Kioto (Labtribe), and again in Europe, in London (333) and Nice (Klub).Mau Mau has already worked for many fashion designers, making the soundtrack for their shows, such as Pierre Cardin, Fause Haten, Zoomp, Reinaldo Lourenço, G, Zapping, Walter Rodrigues, Beneducci, Slam, Lorenzo Merlino, among others.2003 was s special year for his career: Mau Mau was homaged at Parada AME SP, when he played for a 170 thousand crowd. At the end of the parade, all the 16 sound cars broadcasted his set at the same time, and he composed the theme music of the Parade. Also in 2003 Mau Mau released his first solo album, Music is my life (SmartBiz Trax/ Segundo Mundo), featuring only with his own tracks. In the end of 2004, he played at sonarsound, the Brazilian version of Sonar festival (in São Paulo). He performed his live act at VMB, Brazilian MTV's awards party, and had his first videoclip, "Space Funk", nominated as best electronic music video clip. Also in 2004, his remix "Cidade São Paulo", for Cidade de Deus movie soundtrack, was released worldwide in vinyl by Triple Vision.In 2007, Mau Mau released the album "Art, Plugs and Soul", a CD that is mainly focused not on the dance floor, but on working the music as a form of art, innovating the construction of settings and samples and being unconventional. The deeper atmosphere and the lower beats of the CD are a good example of that.
