Maurice Aymard

Maurice Aymard is a visionary DJ/producer and founder of Galaktika Records. An explorer who strikes an emotional chord that can be traced back to his birthplace, in Caracas, Venezuela. His passion finds its roots in family influences and music has been his life since he studied electronic engineering at Nueva Esparta University. Relocating to Barcelona in 2003, he is now equally at home in this city by the sea. Over time, Maurice has submerged himself in various aspects of the music industry. He's run his own club, hosted his own radio show, created an award-winning entertainment website, and, of course, developed Galaktika from a pioneering record store - the very first in Venezuela - into a label, booking agency and podcast that hits thousands of heads with every episode.

As a producer, he's made indelible tracks across such imprints as Berlin's Moodmusic, Hamburg's Einmusika and Denmark's Tic Tac Toe Records, not to mention his own international 'battlestar', Galaktika (which is distributed by Kompakt). Born in 2005, Galaktika is a tight-knit outfit that welcomes contributions by such talents as Gui Boratto, Garnica, Patrick Zigon, Paulo Olarte and Sasse, often winning heavyweight support from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Richie Hawtin and Ricardo Villalobos, and hosting regular club nights among friends. Next up to follow on from releases like his 'Recordar' EP, 'Melancolia', and remixes for Sian and Big Bully & Rufas, among others, this summer sees Maurice's latest output, 'Put Some for Jules' (GLK029), released, replete with a Gui Boratto remix. Then waiting in the wings is a brand new intergalactic sub-label called Personal Music, which will focus his attention on the disco dimension.

Simultaneously bubbling under as a DJ, Maurice has performed widely in clubs around the world, from São Paulo's D-Edge to Barcelona's Macarena club, where he is a weekly resident, at the controls all night long. He's also blended several albums, as he continues to connect the grooves between deep house and techno, en-route uniting European and Latin American dynamics. These have featured his label's 2009 double disc debut, Galaktika Records Compilation Mix, assembled alongside label regular Pablo Bolivar; and this year Galaktika celebrates its fifth anniversary with the release of 5 years of Galaktika , headed up by Maurice and compadre Maetrik.

Yes, movement through melody has always been integral to Maurice Aymard's manifesto - and he continues to gain even more momentum into 2010!
