There are two kinds of creative. Those who speak loudly and publicly about their work and those who let their work speak for it self. Mic Newman falls into the second category. Mic is quietly leading the charge of a new breed of Melbourne house producers currently igniting the world stage, and Juno Plus agrees, naming him in their annual Top 10 One's To Watch for 2011.
Hailing from a family of musicians, Mic has been involved in some form of music making since childhood. His more recent focus on electronic music has immediately gained him notoriety amongst contemporaries and ensued a well-known status in his home country.
Mic's rise to international prominence has also been swift. Breaking into the scene in 2009 with key releases and remixes, including that of seminal influence; Booka Shade on their acclaimed Get Physical imprint, but most notably, his 'Sizzled Sally' EP. One of the highest selling releases on Stuart Geddes' murmur Records. It was named 'EP of the month' in Berlin's Raveline magazine and caused a flurry of hype in the underground community, further exposing Mic's trademark deep and incisive take on House music. Subsequent releases "Not Enough Sleep" on Tsuba and "Live East, Die Young" on 20:20 vision's sub-divisional; Fina Records have gained support from industry elite such as Move D, Jimpster, DJ T, Radio Slave, The Revenge, Jamie Jones, Laurent Garnier, Ben Watt and Ralph Lawson. With a string of releases yet to come in 2011, including an EP on Jimpster's Freerange, Mic is continuing to cement his name and evolving sound firmly in electronic music's macrocosm.
Not content with this success, Mic has launched an illusive alias, 'Fantastic Man'; with his work currently only available on the vinyl medium. His first Juno chart topping release on Wolf Music, along with his debut Fantastic Man artist EP on Detroit label Kolour LTD have already gained rave reviews from fans and DJs alike. The work of both Mic Newman and Fantastic Man reveal a raw talent to spread across a number of genres and a continued desire to push the creative envelope.
Behind the console, Mic continues to solidify himself as a DJ in demand off the back of such a prolific release schedule, frequently showcasing his talent around the country while also holding long standing residencies at Melbourne club icons Revolver and One Six One. His tireless passion, ever growing insight and creativity allow his DJ sets to consistently captivate his audiences both at home and abroad.
