Monosurround

In January 1999, Ramtin A. and Erik S. meet up in a club in Kreuzberg, Berlin and decide to make music together. They swear: "Never get stuck in a rut and always keep re-discovering music". Shortly thereafter, they work on music for two German film productions: "Harte Jungs" (Rothemund/Eichinger) and "Liebesluder" (Detlef Buck). At the same time, they start putting their first stage project together, called Monosurround.

Their early sound can be best described as 60's-Crossover-Bigbeat, performed on stage by 9 instrumentalists. These were good times with unusual live appearances throughout Berlin and at the Fuse Festival, but it was a logistical nightmare, presenting them with a number of problems.
In the summer of 2001, they decide to take a different approach in the direction club music.

While rummaging through rare, old vinyl records, they discover a Spanky Wilson album and find a vocal phrase that begs to be on a club vinyl. "I Warned You Baby" is born. Everything develops quickly from then on. 1st Decade in Erfurt (Northern Lite's label) discover "I Warned You Baby" and release it immediately. It becomes the official hymn of the Sonne-Mond-Sterne Festival in 2002 and the unofficial Love Parade 2002 hit. Apart from numerous Top Ten entries in DJ, internet and sales charts, it reaches number 10 in the DDC and number 1 in the ECC and appears on all well-known electro compilations within Germany. In October 2002, Monosurround start performing live and play top locations and festival from Hamburg to Geneva until May 2004.
Further releases follow. The track "Take Me Love Me Hate Me" (Bo Bullet EP, summer 2003) is a smooth follow-up to the club and chart success of "I Warned You Baby" and establishes Monosurround's reputation as an innovative electro-pop duo. At this time, other artists including Sono, Phil Fuldner, Northern Lite and Glamour to Kill, discover the versatile remix qualities of the boys from Berlin. The remix of Phil Fuldner's "Never Too Late" is released exclusively abroad and is also included on Moonbootica's "DJ Sounds Good" compilation - but more about that later.

Monosurround's musical development continues. The latest release on 1st Decade Records - "WE" - is hardly a common club tool. While working on the track, they had a completely different intention: "WE" should develop on its own, without respect to any outside influence. "WE" opens up a musical world for them, which to date had been filled by a vacuum. This particular track will have a strong influence on the future sound of Monosurround.

The spring of 2004 brings changes. Monosurround put their live activities on hold. In spite of the success, they are dissatisfied with their form of live presentation. Their high musical standards can't be met playing live. "Off to the studio, finish producing the album and then we'll be back playing live again". They decide to tour as a DJ team and spread their idea of club music by this means. Since then, the fan community of Monosurround as a DJ team continues to grow.
By doing so, they meet the guys from Moonbootica in March, 2004. They had been observing Monosurround for some time; just as Monosurround had been following Moonbootique's activities. After DJ-ing at the same party ( "We Want 2 Rock" - record release party in Berlin) it was clear: Monosurround's next release would be on Moonbootique Records and it will be: "Borschtchick"
