As a London teenager obsessed with hip-hop, jungle and 70s soul, Carlos was introduced to the world of music production at the age of 18 by a college friend. Immediately transfixed, he suddenly found himself locked in a world of beats, staying awake into the early hours chopping up breaks and editing samples.
Around 2000, with drum'n'bass starting to sound stale and with garage becoming increasingly commercial as it catered to the major labels, Carlos started getting into breakbeat in a big way, listening to the likes of FreQ Nasty, Chris Carter and Deekline. DJ Mutiny was born with the tune 'Latin Break' (Dig the Funk EP) on Deekline's SubFunk label in early 2001. Soon after, Mutiny hooked up with DJ Quest, with whom he ran the labels Cyberfunk and Funkatech until 2004.
Recently, DJ Mutiny has become known as the pioneer of a fresh new soulful sound within breaks, starting up the world's first soulful breaks label, Sub Frequency Funk, which is widely considered to be one of the most pioneering labels in the breaks scene (and which is now run by long-time collaborators Incyte and Cubit).
Mutiny has been DJing and producing breaks tracks for seven years now. He has released tunes on Supercharged, Botchit, Hardcore Beats, Sound of Habib, Cyberfunk, Funkatech, Mechanoise, Wireframe and Sub Frequency Funk. He has DJed all over the world, from Melbourne to Brussels, Stockholm to Budapest, Vancouver to Auckland, and San Francisco to Granada. His tunes receive regular support from the likes of the Freestylers, Annie Nightingale, Deekline, Aquasky, the Breakfastaz, Rennie Pilgrem, Skool of Thought and Jay Cunning.
He continues to push the boundaries, making tracks for people to dance to and listen to.
