Ralphie Dee
From: USA
Ralphie Dee Ralphie Dee is no stranger to dance music when he started playing clubs all over New York in the 80’s. He went from playing the finest hot spots like 2001, Pastels, Club B and Promotions in Brooklyn to The Palladium, The Limelight and Red Zone in Manhattan. As the 80’s came to a close Ralphie focused on another love, the recording studio. Early productions, co productions and remixes like OVERDOSE by MAJOR PROBLEMS on pioneer house label NU GROOVE then one of the biggest house, techno records THE REALM by CHANTEL feat PARADISE INC. and THE BLOOD OF AN ENGLISH MUFFIN all were projects Ralphie has production credit for. With the hits came DJ bookings and by 1993 he was booked to play all over Western Europe in places like London, Amsterdam, Paris, Belgium, Rome, Zurich, Frankfurt and others. His DJ sets could be heard all over Europe on syndicated stations as well as major press from magazines worldwide. In 2002 he was approached by some old friends about starting a U.S. affiliate of a small still unknown company that made record bags for DJ’s. In 2007 that company is the most recognized brand in the world for DJ gear “UDG” and is distributed in over 30 countries worldwide. Ralphie’s label ‘New York Grooves’ is a digital imprint started back in 2002 which is a vehicle for his recent productions, the first release “Ralphie Dee Presents” New York Grooves Volume 1. “Beats In Time” and “The Heat” rounded out the package paving the way for the sounds to come. Volume 2 “ Feel Me” punched the hell out of dance floors with an original tech house version and the remix by “DPI “ from Holland which gave their version an acid lined techno gem. More releases followed through 2006, most noted was NYG Volume 4 “ Gotta Get Up” which is a piano, disco driven peak killer and was supported by the big boys all through out 2006. NYG Volume 10 kicked in 2007 with” So Sexy “ which featured remixes by Splashfunk and Funky Junction and surpassed all releases sold. Universal Love – NYG 08 opened the doors to a whole different audience combining a big room mix along with a dirty electro mix. NYG 09 “ Just Feel It” with it’s two mixes especially the “Zanzibar Mix” blasted worldwide dancefloors with it’s 80’s retro house feel and the reactions have been amazing with every new release. Icing on the cake came with NYG 15 Ralphie Dee Presents “ Universal Love” The Remixes by Funky Junction, Splashfunk, Eclectics and Keepers Of The Melody all turned in killer mixes. The story continues in 2008. His second label “Mentality” was his original label for vinyl releases back in 1994. The most recognized vinyl release from this label was “ Alici & Ralphie Dee” Primitive Passions Ep.The early releases are now available digitally and the 2007 releases start with “ Bend Down Safely” the label is more on the minimal deeper side of house. In 2006 Ralphie started “The New York Grooves Podcast” which features a new DJ set as of his top 10 tracks for the month as well announced DJ dates and pictures. As of January 2007 the podcast downloads have tripled throughout the world. Going back Ralphie has shared production and remix duties over the years with the likes of “Lenny Dee, Funky Junction, Joey Beltram and others as well as played along side of some of the worlds best known talent, Carl Cox, Sven Vath, Laurent Garnier, Derrick May and Jeff Mills at some of the biggest raves and best clubs on the planet. Now balancing out the work for UDG, his label New York Grooves, doing a monthly podcast, traveling to DJ on the weekends and produce his own music his plate is full but he is still hungry. Taking full advantage of technology and being able to promote more now then ever he shows no signs of slowing down. The best is still, yet to come.
