Sasse & Holmar Filipsson began working together in 2001, working under the moniker Mr Negative (along with Olivier Spencer (Still Going/DFA)) - forming a "slightly overweight boy-band". Their first Mr Negative release came on Crack & Speed with 'The Star Spangled Banner' and they later signed with Fine Records, releasing the huge 'Better Than You' EP - to massive world-wide support. They followed in 2005 with their 'Evacuate' EP, which was also Mr Negative's final release.
Two years after the tearful, seemingly unnoticed break-up of the overweight boy-band Holmar Filipsson & Sasse (who have been busy working on numerous other things in the meantime) decided to band together again. And, after a four day studio session in a cold, cold corner of Brooklyn 'Lilly Louisa' was born - a dancefloor ode to seminal producer Lil' Louis. Sasse & Holmar wanted to give credit to where his name came from - the name of his younger sister! The track is reminiscent of Holmar and Sasse's earlier sound; a combination of epic synths and enveloping tensions, with a buoyant sparkle building throughout. Icelandic band Gus Gus take on the remix, adding more kick and a different drive to the track that raises your feet from the floor. Holmar & Ulysees' Electric Screwdriver remix is one for the serious heads-down, techno fans.
Sasse is the owner, A&R and main producer of Moodmusic, Mood Limited and Sunday Music Records and has cooked in many a musical soup during his 15 years in the business. Hailing from Finland, he maintains the Scandinavian spirit and friendliness and holds two of the most sought-after residencies in his home of Berlin - at the legendary Panorama Bar and Weekend. His sound is electronic with luscious house vibes that run through deep techno styles and his remixes and productions have brought him to work with diverse artists such as Slam, Blaze, Phonique and Marco Carola on labels such as Brique Rouge, Playhouse, Soma, Moon Harbour and Dessous.
Holmar Filipsson was the 'enfant térrible' of the Nordic party scene, throwing some of the first underground raves in Iceland in the early 90's and DJing at Reykjavik's finest clubs until his move to New York - where he held the Loftparties and 'N'Ice' at Baktun and Centro-fly. In 2001 he started label Crack&Speed with Jef K, also releasing his own productions under various guides on labels including Music For Freaks, Gourmet and Pokerflat. 2006 saw Filipsson team up with Greg Oreck to form Thugfucker Recordings and put out music from D'Julz, David Duriez, Gus Gus, Mike Monday, Phonique, Adultnapper, Kalim Shabazz and forthcoming from Icelandic band FM Belfast. Holmar and Greg also form the Thugfucker artist outfit - with their debut artist album set to drop in 2008.
Forthcoming from Sasse and Holmar includes an EP on label Mule Electronique and a full-length album is currently in the works.
