Simone Cavagnuolo, A.(lso)K.(nown)A.(s) Dj SIMI, has been living for more than 20 years in Naples, a metropolis that is ordinary and unique at the same time, following its urban trajectories, moving between its images and sounds. Naples is both threatened and stimulated by the energy of its volcano, absently glancing over the city and involved in its everyday life. Rhythmic steps tread asphalt roads upon which steel threads design orthogonal cages and rising ramps, and then open caves, dig passageways, and create unexpected emergency exits. Background hum and sounds from the metropolis emerge, they are repetitive, mechanical, circular, but unrepeatable and full of different shades. Shades traced by cosmic trails, like a molecular flux, inscribe sensory lapilli and plastic impulses on corporeal membranes, shaking your backbone and quickly reaching your heart, stomach, mind. They get to the mind of (D)em(j)urge SIMI who mixes different frequencies, transforms syncopations into continuities, changes dissonance into harmony, creating percussive beats and pulsing sounds. Strong and regenerated vibrations creep into a changeable urban space; they scratch it, they liven it up, they enrich it with images of other metropolises, other countries, they tell stories coming from different sounds, different steps, different cages and passageways, different exits. They show new exits. From Nea-polis to Cosmo-polis, round- trip, oscillator and sampler, drifting away and finding a landing place…constantly…beating! G. A.
