Sleepy & Boo play house music of all shapes and sizes, rocking rooms big and small across New York City and beyond. They love thick drums, big basslines, hypnotic grooves and tripped-out sci-fi synthesizers. Forget sticking to one genre - in a typical set, they'll cover everything from lush deepness and funky, stripped-down tracks to pulsating minimal beats and dark, jacked-up electronic elements. Moving beyond a typical DJ performance, the duo perform a unique tag-team set: while one is manning the turntables, the other is adding samples, loops and effects via their KAOSS pad and Electribe sampler. The result is a crowd-energizing performance that always keeps the dancefloor moving.
The duo are the founders of Basic NYC, their production group that's involved in all facets of underground dance culture: DJing, throwing parties and producing tracks. For over four years, they've been the bi-weekly residents of Basic NYC events at New York hotspot the Sullivan Room (winner of the esteemed Night Stalker award from Club Systems magazine). Their party reflects the "basic" philosophy - music-forward, vibe-oriented events that are dedicated to exposing new and out-of-town talent. Named as "Night Visionaries" by Time Out New York magazine in April 2005, Sleepy & Boo's party has become a NYC insitution for those looking to catch world-famous DJs in an intimate, down-and-dirty space. Spanning techno to house, with plenty of crossover in between, the party has hosted guests including Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, Josh Wink, DJ Heather, Kaskade, Derrick May, Stacey Pullen, John Tejada, Audiofly, Anthony Pappa, Andy Caldwell, Terry Francis, Nathan Coles, Ralph Lawson, Garth, David Duriez, Kevin Yost, the Lawnchair Generals, Jay Tripwire, Phil Weeks, Hipp-e, Tyler Stadius, Tony Thomas and dozens more. As the resident DJs, Sleepy & Boo's closing sets have built their reputation as versatile DJs who always leave the late night crowd begging for more music as the party runs into the morning.
Outside of their Sullivan Room homebase, Sleepy & Boo have dropped memorable DJ sets at all of New York's leading nightlife venues. At New York superclub Pacha, Sleepy & Boo are regular main-room openers, as well as talent coordinators for the local-focused basement room. They also are have worked extensively with New York's esteemed Made Event group, and have played at Cielo, Studio B, Irving Plaza, Shelter, Santos Party House, the South Street Seaport, the Cooper Hewitt Museum, Duvet, Sol, Le Souk and more. Whether closing out a party or setting the mood for a headliner, Sleepy & Boo have appeared alongside John Digweeed, M.A.N.D.Y, Sebastien Leger, Loco Dice, deadmau5, James Zabiela, D. Ramirez, Josh Gabriel and countless others.
