Originally inspired by the likes of the Chemical Brothers, Underworld, Daft Punk, Leftfield, Orbital, Aphex Twin and many other experimental electronic artists, I got a set of decks with the main idea of taking random samples from old vinyl to play around with but after learning how to mix two records together and how much fun that could be, I kind of got a bit carried away.
After years of focusing on DJing I am now getting back to where it all started and spending more time in the studio on the production side of things. Drawing influences from a wide variety of music, but mostly artists/DJ's such as Trentemoller, Gui Boratto, Stephan Bodzin, Sasha, James Holden, Booka Shade, Matthew Dear, Ripperton, Ewan Pearson, Will Saul, Minilogue, Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Audiodox and the slightly darker sounds of Ricardo Villalobos, Josh Wink, Sven Vath, Richie Hawtin and Adam Beyer.
Not long after getting back to grips with the studio DJ Magazine picked up on a track of mine saying this lovely thing 'Sounding like ants on acid...He sounds like Matthew Dear's Audion project, We're suprised to know he is still unsigned...Labels, get in touch with him please'.
John Digweed also picked up on a remix I did of X-Press 2, playing it on his 'Best of 2007' Transitions show no less.
Labels did get in touch, which led to my 1st EP entitled 'Stiff Neck EP' being released through Minimar Recordings in 2007. More releases are set to follow very soon in 2008, with tracks and remixes due to be released on Hypercolour, Minimal People Inc and Variance Recordings.
A DJ mix of mine was also featured in iDJ Magazines Raw Talent section, coming runner up with a mix of Minimal/Tech House & Techno. They said these words 'this is exactly the kind of deep, gritty, minimalism people should be crying out to hear!'.
