The first release from Deep Edition Recordings is also a debut effort from [Aura] & RJ Fletcher. As the label name would suggest it’s a deep affair and equally as the EP title suggests, the emphasis is on late night grooves. Put simply, this is serious, no-nonsense deep house music. And it’s a truly north of England affair; the artists are from Leeds and Manchester and the remixers/label bosses – Steve SoulBasics and Martijn – are from Darlington and County Durham.
Martijn will perhaps be best known to those who have followed his releases and remixes on Baker Street Recordings in recent months. He has penned two original releases for the Leeds label – ‘Circus Dubs EP’ and ‘Lose It’ – while also remixing Murray Richardson, picking up support from Nils Nuernberg, Diz, Luke Solomon, Fish Go Deep, Aaron Ross and Ben Westbeech along the way.
Martijn’s first release ‘The Red Light EP’ appeared on Kinky Vinyl in 2007 and instantly earned him the respect of DJs, both national and international. Since then, alongside Baker Street, he has seen his original music signed to Subway Soul and Just Deep Music, along with completing remixes for Jay Tripwire & Boddhi Satva on Grooveland Music, Sebastian Davidson on Just Deep and Deep 88 on Subway Soul.
Steve ‘SoulBasics’ Fox is drafted in for a remix which will further support an already impressive career in house music. As SoulBasics, working with Matt Bell, Steve released music in the late 2000’s on Hed Kandi and Seamless Recordings. The SoulBasics project will start again later in the summer of 2010 and is set to include collaborations with Brazilian Soul Crew and Diamond Dealer. As a solo artist Steve has worked with labels such as Seed Recordings and Just Deep Music and along the way has seen his music remixed by leading figures such as Vincent Kwok, Conan Liquid, Boddhi Satva and Kid Massive.
Having both impressed with their music, Martijn and Steve now have their sights set on delivering an equally impressive label, the aim of which is to showcase some of the best up and coming producers the world has to offer. Future releases are lined up from Midnight Audio (Tom Davis), Persian, Spain’s Danny Gutierrez and Steve SoulBasics.
