A rousing new dance label has activated, ‘to successfully launch new producers, DJs and artists. If it sounds great, we’re putting it out!’ says Launch. 

Label boss Gladys Pizarro has a fabled history. As an A&R in the 90s her underground signings generated a multi-million dollar turnover and let fly a movement which would come to define the genre. How would the landscape of house music have formed without the Djing dexterity of Roger Sanchez, or post-acid riffs of Josh Wink and commercial accomplishments of Erick Morillo, who underlined that ‘this thing called house’ could be big bucks indeed? Where else could ‘bad-boys’ Armand Van Helden and Todd Terry rub and smoulder alongside the spiritual unity of Louie Vega and Kenny Dope, the gospel-fired Barbara Tucker and pop diva Ultra Nate?   

With a musical insight gleaned from the streets of Spanish Harlem NYC, Pizarro founded the careers of many and most notable American house artists and DJs during her tenure at Strictly Rhythm records, enabling Strictly to be voted best independent dance label for 10 years in a row and notching up numerous gold and platinum records.  And now she is back, this time at the helm of her own baby, Launch Entertainment.

If Launch have a motive, a mission statement, the anthemic debut label release ‘Who you wanna be?’ lyrically expounds this, declaring; ‘What d’you wanna be?..the time has come for me to break out…I finally realise me…what I feel is so real.’

What’s more, ‘Who you wanna be?’ produced by former #1 artist Chris Brann (Wamdue Project) and remixed by the indisputably masterful Bob Sinclar, unleashes Pizarro’s legacy and destiny. Her contacts, her friends, the people who want to play a part in Launch: it’s an education in House. 

Expect many more big names to flank the freshest new talent. Summery beats and hot salsa vibes will be served; Latin flavours will segue with the very best in commercial pop-house. Enjoy the trip.
