London based label Mean Records was started in 2005 by DJ/Producer Cesare Marchese aka Cesare vs Disorder alongside friend and collaborator Alejandro Lopez Ross aka Rudolf. Initially a project started solely to evoke the experimentation of sound, not to focus on the market but simply to produce some weird psychedelic sonorities and indulge their love of all things house and techno.
It's a concept that has evolved and developed into what Mean is known for today; a strong focus on the distribution of high quality electronic music. This sits hand in hand with the development of both established artists as well as a strong roster of emerging talent that they house today.
The last few years have seen Mean gain international recognition, its artists playing worldwide and collaborations and remixes from some of the hottest names around. Inxec, Kate Simko and Sweet n' Candy have all had their hands in the Mean pot as well as an exciting remixes from Cabanne, Jens Zimmermann and Fabrizio Maurizi coming up in the winter. A reputation of forward thinking releases and a refined roster of artists who all bring their individual attributes to this collective has gained support from Sven Vath, Ritchie Hawtin, Locodice, Paco Osuna, Raresh, Benno Blome, Jin Choi, Jeremy Caulfield, Anthony Collins, Glimpse, Konrad Black, Tim Xavier, Mark Henning, Oliver Ho, Bruno Pronsato, Dario Zenker, Seuil to name a few....
Mean Records has formed its own signature, carving its way into the house and techno scene we see a minefield of minimal electronic house, elegant techno, quirky and original soundscapes and dark monotonous mind trips.
With nice 12" releases under its belt and more emerging projects and ideas Mean sits inside a cleverly crafted box, its content diverse and eclectic but resolute on the same theme, to draw you inside the artists mind and leave you there, captured by its construction and complexity. A playground of sound encompassing moody jazz and swing, rhythmic percussion and vivacious house elements. Deep landscapes of experimental sound and ironic melodies are all part of its identity. Mean is now run alongside its sister Serialism Records and housed under EssentialReload, a platform consisting of PR/Booking Agency, record label, A & R, Press and Artists Management.
