Varoslav is the Paris based, Czech born artist, DJ and producer who for the past four years has managed, and together with Guy Gerber, a&r’d the highly successful Supplemental Facts label. This month, though, he launches a new project all his own, namely boutique label Rue de Plaisance.
With the help of his girlfriend, Varoslav aims to establish the imprint as an eclectic stable that releases everything from experimental house to funked-up techno across both digital and vinyl formats. For each release, special artwork will be created for the first 300 vinyl presses, as you would expect from a man of such musical and graphical vision.
Said sounds are set to come from Varoslav’s own studio, as well as those of his close friends. There will also be a focus on special collaborations and remixes from hand picked stars, with the first (R2P001) coming from David K feat Opium. It features the rare vocal talents of a member of post-punk band Nouvelle Vague and is a impressive coming together of styles from very different ends of the sonic spectrum.
“Rue De Plaisance is where I live and produce my music,” explains Varoslav. “I created this label to bring together my artist friends and, at the same time, to promote electronic music and try to save vinyl’s existence. I have been a collector for 15 years and vinyl has, in my opinion, a very important place in this culture, even if digital culture has also become essential.”
After years of meeting similar people with similarly lucid sparks for both art and music, Varoslav started two vinyl only bootleg labels, which have received much acclaim. It’s only likely, then - given the man’s experience and passion - that his latest project will proffer from much the same fate.
