SubSensory was founded in 2005 by Portland Oregon-based techno artist Jack Coleman (aka JAK). The goal was to promote underground techno and tech-house from the Pacific Northwest US. The label kicked off officially in 2007, when Jack was living in Chile. Inspired by the South American scene in which djs were igniting dance floors with whatever files and technology at their disposal, Jack realized the global potential of digital music - a big revelation for a long-time vinyl purist.

SubSensory has since released a broad spectrum of techno from in-house producers like LilRoj, JAK and Kala as well as internationally recognized talents like Style of Eye, Audio Injection, Bryan Zentz, Mario Miranda and Kube 72. While the label's sound varies from funky minimal and tech-house to full on peak-hour techno, the focus remains on a serious-minded sound that's designed strictly for djs and the dance floor.

Back in the US, Jack and a group of local artists created the Portland-based SubSensory dj crew. It consists of Jack and LilRoj, who run and produce for the label; veteran techno and house dj George Holland; Moroccan native dj/producer Kala; Miss Vixen, a regional favorite dj and designer; and, more recently, Costa Rican artist Mario Maroto, who arrived in Portland in 2010. Together they run the Portland's go-to techno night, STATIC. Now approaching its 15^th month, STATIC remains a free event thanks to the goodwill of the region's surplus of techno talent and the strong support of the dance community.

2011 looks bright for the label, with releases and remixes from SubSensory's regulars as well as Mario Miranda (Costa Rica), Spark Taberner (Holland), Flawer & Nick Borsato (Italy) and Mario Maroto (Costa Rica). SubSensory's 34th release, JAK's "A Thought Apart" with Mario Miranda and Audioelectronic remixes will be out January 27 exclusively on Beatport.com.
