Wax Wars - A new compilation series on Defected Records.
Defected harness the competitive energy between rival dance music labels to create a friendly battle ground on 3 great CD’s.
There is always rivalry in business. The record industry is perhaps even sharper than most in terms of its competitiveness. We thought why not harness this energy into a compilation series. In this instance it is 3 labels vying to see who is the champion within the House scene. It is all done in good fun – or is it?”.(Simon Dunmore
Soul Man

Wax Wars is a new compilation concept by Defected. It seeks to make globally respected house labels battle against each other through the strength of their catalogues and their mixing abilities. Each imprint is only allowed to use their own exclusive catalogue to create an individual mix which is a true representation of the sound of their label, containing classics as well as future hits.

The Wax Wars Debut features London based Defected Records, represented by Simon Dunmore, Miami’s Soulfuric Records represented by Brian Tappert and Switzerland’s Purple Music represented by Jamie Lewis. The three illustrated characters are based around the actual personalities of the DJ’s they represent. Simon Dunmore has a formidable collection of rare soul and funk and so takes the shape of Soul Man, Brian Tappert is pioneering DJ downloads and so he becomes Digi Man, Finally Jamie Lewis only plays from Vinyl so naturally his powers are as Vinyl Man.

Each mix has been carefully selected and mixed by the heads of each label that regularly play together around the world. This is the inspiration of this series as every A & R and DJ loves to shows off their own special music collection especially when they are playing against each other.

Last time Simon and I battled, it was obvious the fix was in...this time he's goin down and Soulfuric will rein Supreme. We will need to keep an eye on Jamie’s always the quietest ones”. (Brian Tappert, Soulfuric Label Head, Digi Man).
