You’ve probably seen him about – you know, that old bloke who seems to know everybody and who’s at all the best parties. His name is Zgy, and he’s the coolest 75-year-old you’ll ever meet.

How has is Ibiza 2003 going for you so far?
This season, I think it starts with very good vibes. I see the reaction of young people. I think it’s going to be a good season because what has been outside up till now – hell. Wars, crimes, famine, water, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, you name it. So all these people are fed up with that so they come to Ibiza and celebrate life. Which is something worth celebrating.

What’s it like working for Manumission?
Well, I’ve just started so I suppose it will be fine. We had a lot of fun at the rehearsals, and then we had the first performance which I think was very good. Of course I was not on the other side, but I came down and saw some the sequences. They were nice sequences, after all nobody’s a real professional and that’s what I like because if it’s too professional. As long as you keep your good humour it’s alright. I hold a sign that says ‘Less Is More’.



Who else have you worked for?
I don’t work for anybody. I work with people. Actually I never did a job. I work for myself distributing information. My job is to pass on information about the earth, metaphysical information, all those things that’s what interests me. Make people aware of what’s happening on the planet.
In Manumission really what I’m doing is not just the show of silly things, I’m distributing a book. The book is about 10GBP. We have to try and make accessible without having any profit and we going to see how we are dealing with that so I pass this information, ‘The Little Earth Book’ is the title.

How long have you lived in Ibiza?
About 16 years now. I was here in ’69 the first time. Ibiza was less less less less. Less highways, less buildings, less people, less asphalt, less of everything, but actually this period for me was the same. Often people say ‘Ah, those old time…’ but I think they are more exciting now the times than ever.

What brought you here?
I suppose the electromagnetism, and special magnetism and magic magnetism of the island like most people. It’s a place you can be who you are if you want, and within the rules you can be freak. There is less prejudices and things it’s a pretty open place. I call it the best international asylum for crazy people. People commit themselves and they want to stay. That has to be a very special nuthouse right, for you come and you want to stay? And you come back, voluntarily.
I was in New York when I heard first of Ibiza. But I have family in Ibiza, and also Mallorca and Menorca. Actually I lived in Mallorca for a year in 1939, right after the Civil war. And then I was here in the 70s, then I was like about 11 years I didn’t come to Europe. At this stage I was down to Brazil and Argentina, Hawaii, California, these places.

Have you always liked going out?
I like to go out, of course. I like dancing, because the music now is bringing a kind of subliminal message to everyone for the young people. So every place people are dancing the same tunes, trance house, percussion, all kinds of music that has this message and this is what I like to share. I always like music anyhow. I have been dancing since I was very young.
The thing in these places are very strong places, and people put them down. But what is my generation and the one before me and the one after me, what is that they are giving to young people. What are the examples? Misery and troubles and all these things.
We have fantastic technology. We have very know-how. But when it comes to third world countries, they pay in their blood, in their raw material. And they always have been exploited. But the imperialist countries, the Spanish, the French, the British, what have they been doing in history and now the US you just have to read the history. So all these young people what do they seek?
The good thing about all these big big gatherings is everybody for some reason loves something very definite. Which is the music, it is the dancing, it is the atmosphere, it is that freedom. In the action of loving they have this vibration, and the loving vibration is what we imagine god is like.
Life, light, love, ok. The three basic things. So if you have 10,000 here, 8,000, 3,000, 5,000 there and that every fortnight or every weekend, imagine put all these vibrations of love, and this fortunately it counterbalances the other side.
Of course some they try to exploit that, and others they try to forbid it.

Where do you think the most love is on the island?
The thing here it is an example. There is a lot of fantastic djs. They go to Moscow, they go to Tel Aviv, they go to Tokyo, they go to Brazil, they go everywhere taking and playing this music that people are making here, because there are many studios and djs in here. This is what is it is, it’s an opportunity, it’s a gathering of all these people. But the phenomenon is occurring all over the world I think. Because in Buenos Airies, and people from Rio, and people from San Francisco, they have places with big names and they share the same music, the same views, and that goes fast because we have internet.

What parties do you like?
You know I really don’t want to say this is better than this and that is that. I like where there is good music and I have friends that they are performing, be they girls who dance on the podium or somebody who is doing something special, I’ll go there. Because fortunately I’m welcome in every place I go they let me in.

This is the first part of the complex paradox. I am an intrinsic whole and an extrinsic part of the whole. Essentially I am a subject. Existentially I am an object. Both states of being derived directly and indirectly from the same Source of Beingness. One, directly from the Source. The other from a process of evolution.
My awareness of the consciousness of self-Self, my waking up to who I am, is connecting, relating, depending on my whole human and non-human environment: From the farthest to the closest clusters of Galaxies to my solar system, my temporary home planet plus all the historical, and geopolitical entanglements during the process of human evolution.
At that point, whenever I have been intermittently and more steadily aware of my isness-inq begins n beingness, my consciousness of who I am, a new process of self-creation, who i choose to become; expanding my own consciousness and conscience of who-what I am being; and therefore trans-forming (including trance-periods of being) by per-forming while experiencing the who-what I am here-now. At the same time I am becoming more aware that it is not only myself that is going through all this process, but also since I belong to the human race , somehow there is an exchange between me and the rest of the human race. However, the most exciting feeling is to know-feel that it is It, That, that is experiencing It-Self through me ( and about seven billion within the species plus the rest of forms: All forms somehow hold a degree of consciousness of self). This millennium is due to be an exciting one. Right from the beginning since I-we are accelerating the evolutionary process of self-awareness, one can feel and hear that something is in the air.
