Welcome to the long, hot summer...
Ibiza 2010: among other things, the Voice survived the Space Opening double-header, snooped around the carpark at DC10, kicked up its heels at Ushuaia (until the disco mafia swooped and sent los Vagabundos packing) and is pleased to report the island is packed and partying hard.
Unsurprisingly, Cadenza’s Sunday nights at Pacha is creating a big buzz. Even without Ushuaia, Luciano and Co. are packing the club. Credit due to the design team – the news dancefloor set up is a definite winner and proves that it’s not just space that matters, it’s how you use it. Speaking of Space, We Love… continues to thrive. The evergreen formula of big, populist DJs and an ever-expanding rabbit warren of rooms to get lost in is still pulling ‘em in.
Wednesday nights are shaping up to be the new horserace with Brazilian beach superclub Warung at Privilege going head to head with Kehakuma at Space and Channel Zoo. Which wild bunch will win out? It’s early to tell but, for now, Voice is just enjoying being spoilt for choice with great music. Another wild life themed event - Cocoon’s Party Animals – remains healthy. One thing though, either we’re going deaf from too many years in front of the bassbins or it is really quiet on the Terrace. Turn it up, please!
Spreading the techno wealth across the week, Safe House has opened the doors of Come Together (Thursdays @ Space) to Monza and Meganite. Not having to cope with the massive, sound-sucking main room at Privilege could be a blessing in disguise. Leave that to the Zoo Crew, who are braving the indoor world with a Saturday night carry on at Privilege. Look out for zebras on the San Raf crossing.
Meanwhile, old fave Circo Loco has gotten off to a slow start after last year’s enforced absence. The DJ line-ups are first class, so hopefully the club will get back to full strength for the July/August peak. Maybe they just need a good publicity stunt like SuperMartXe. The roaring Spanish success has upped the ante this summer and booked heiress/celebrity sex tape star Paris Hilton to appear in a promo video. The phrase “more money than sense” springs to mind. That being said, celebrity sells. F**K Me I’m Famous is more packed than a Tokyo commuter train at rush hour.
Ibiza Rocks is ruling the roost with its own-brand superstars. It got off to a brilliant start showcasing Kate Moss’s unwashed ex, Pete Doherty and with the Prodigy, Dizzee Rascal, Calvin Harris and Pendulum still to come it’s going to be another huge year. Though the other Brits are a bit muted - not a peep out of Wonderland, and Cream is quietly going about its trance-tastic business.
It is fantastic to see the island on such great form and Voice will be keeping you updated on all the rumour, scandal and must-know info. The only thing that could make the summer better? Spain winning the World Cup – viva España!
