After first emerging with a number of his own cheeky re-edits, young Italian Nicholas has landed proper this month with a most excellent deep house compilation, Back on Track on Needwant. It sees the producer tackle the rather exclusive, unmistakably classic back catalogue of Nu Groove – an NYC label which existed only between 1988 and 1992. "Why?" You may be asking. At the time, Masseyeff had been dj’ing and working under the pseudonym Vedrenn since 1998 and was coming to the end of his time owning and running the respected record store Limelight in the Southern France. Seen dropping ‘Deva’ in his sets in late 2007, Bodzin went on to release it as Nicolas Masseyeff's "real name" debut in 2008; the beginning of their lengthy working relationship...
