Dana Ruh will be at Fabric this bank holiday weekend
May is here and you get next Monday off so this weekend is one of the best in the year. That’s mirrored in the parties on offer up and down the country, with big dogs playing all night, special back to back sets and monumental album launches all included. Get some!
Daphni at Sub Club, Glasgow
Huntleys + Palmers have reportedly been after a set from Daphni for ten years. Finally it comes to fruition this Friday when Dan Snaith heads to Sub Club for a three hour set that will find him draw on his big house sound. It is a final hurrah for the now disowned night and sees founder Andrew Thompson play in support.
He might be able to hop down vast festival stages, but Midland can also rock a small and sweaty club with just as much skill. This Sunday he plays all night long so will be able to really stretch his legs and take you on a perfectly curated trip through synth and downtempo stuff, has more rugged house and onto, probably, banging techno. Here is his wonderful Essential Mix from 2016.
Mint Warehouse is always a site of some real scenes on Bank Holiday, and surely none will be more memorable than this weekend when the one and only Ricardo Villalobos plays back to back with Raresh, on the terrace, for five hours. As if that wasn’t enough, Sonja Moonear brings her cultured house and techno, Rich NxT offers dubbed out tech and Annie and Bobby provide tried and tested support.
DJ Bone, DJ Rolando & Mike Huckaby at Hidden, Manchester
Detroit techno will be the order of the evening at Hidden on Friday. Three masters of the form are playing, with the uncompromising deck wizard DJ Bone hammering it out, Underground Resistance man Rolando offering a more serene and musical style, and deep house don Mike Huckaby bringing his warm and intimate sounds.
Pampa label boss DJ Koze’s latest album is a perfectly curious, melodic and singular record of hip hop, house, pop and ambient with a glut of great guests. He launches it at Printworks with sets from house masters MCDE and Mano Le Tough, a live show from synth wizard Nath Fake, starker electro-techno from Chloe and some quality house vibes from Lawrence, Scott Grooves and DJ Slyngshot. Some party!
Techno circus master Sven Väth brings some of the crazy colour that makes his Ibiza party so famous to the former meat packing factory. Next to his big and personable sounds, Cocoon label artist Tim Green plays a maximalist techno live show and Dana Ruh brings deeper, smokier vibes. Minimal man André Galluzzi also makes his EC1 debut.
