2007 was the year that we were shaken and stirred by the politicians in Ibiza. James Bond wouldn't have stood a chance; if the dodgiest director of the worlds best club, couldn't argue his way out of a month long ban, then Daniel Craig in 2007 would have been thwarted faster than you can say 'skintight Speedo shorts´. It was definitely the year than the seemingly impossible became reality.

From Sven propping up the decks at Privilege, via Manumission changes venues mid-season to Josh Wink losing his brand new residency @ Circoloco after only one gig and a couple of inappropriate misquotes, even our jaded selves swallowed our tea the wrong way one than once as the summer progressed.

So what for 08?  How to predict in a world of such uncertainty? What will the numerically blessed summer of 8 deliver? Could it get any more outlandish? Well, apparently it could.

Out of everything, you could always count on Fridays at Pacha right? Wrong! Pete Tong's gone and left. Radio One have been making noises for a while about his absenteeism, and it appears they've had enough of single-mindedly promoting a particular sunset bar, while the kids in Leeds tune in to a DJ far removed from his supposed home of house.

They've demanded he record his show from the Radio One studios. So it's bye bye Mambo's and hello private jet on a Friday night.

Unfortunately, the only club willing to foot the bill for said jet appears to be Eden. Wonderland indeed. Wonders all round. Rumours of fisticuffs regarding already booked guests, and new agents and managers lining their pockets as the race to the grave begins are sadly unconfirmed, but we don't imagine it's pretty at the Pacha office right now. But not to worry, lose one Radio One DJ, find another, Trevor Nelson is already slotting into the Global Room slot on a Friday instead, so I don't suppose the club's really that bothered. Pushing Jade Jagger's Jezebel into a Thursday with David Guetta might not be the answer though...F*ck Me I´m Famous? Not the most elegant brand share in our opinion.

And as for Eden? Money will have to work hard to pay the cost of the man like Pete. He got power, and a commission on the VIP allegedly. Perhaps he'll get a € on every flyer he brings in too? Every penny counts for a DJ on the wrong side of 40...

Other egos on the prowl include Groove Armada after so many years being the cash cows for Space; it looks like they're off on their own crusade. Lovebox at Eden? Or Pacha? Stranger things can happen, although perhaps someone should tell the We Love team, currently sunning themselves in India… blink and you can lose your line-ups at this time of year, the piranhas are circling the island.

At least they're assured of a night still though. With the new laws under dispute, and the opening hours not yet fully confirmed to either midday or 6pm, the rest of promoters' negotiations for Space have ground to a halt. In Bed, Matinee, La Troya, and Azuli are all chopping at the bit, and whilst Xtravaganza might have been lamely scratched from the race, it's still a case of far too many contenders for the stalls.

Not to forget of course, the newcomers, sticking their heads over the stable yard to see if they can get a look in. This year, if gossip is to believed (or even just tastily enjoyed) none other than Danny Tenaglia fancies trotting off with the Thursday night weekly, after the success of his end of season foray last September. Then there's Goa, from Madrid, who gamely proved their colours in August 07 with a brave Monday evening blast.

And of course, every year Ministry have a snifter at Space, although now they own the Hed Kandi brand, so maybe it's a little more tempting for the Playa D'en Bossa superclub. Quite frankly the only satisfactory solution that we can think of is to add an extra 2 days to the week and be done with it. If you're going to take away our mornings, Mr Councilman, then we demand a longer weekend. We'd like to have Fridays, followed by Matinee-day, then Saturday, then Loveday, then Sunday. Makes so much more sense, we promise to go home at 6am on the dot, we won't even wiggle our hips before midday (are we allowed to whistle between 6am and 12 do you think?), but don't take away our dancing hours. Just redistribute them.

Or maybe Space could open at 6pm (as the town hall may decide) and then just stay open for 12 hours and change promoters every 6? All change! You are now leaving Azuli and entering Carl Cox' switch the banners over and hey presto! Would anyone notice the difference?

Perhaps we're entering a new era of prohibition? Roll on the return of the speakeasy! Illicit dancing dens open from 6am, secret morning gatherings on cliff tops and in dingy side streets. Apparently private villas are now out of the question too, with giant fines imposed last October on the house owners. All aboard for the after-hours at sea I say. Ahoy there Politicos, does your law cover the waves? The pirates may return to the island and they'd be more than welcome.

Or, more likely, the slippery dons of the white isle will bring forward their opening hours, and clubs will commence at the far more conventional time of 10pm, to make sure they still milk the money out of our wallets sufficiently. Heaven forbid THEY should lose some profitable precious minutes of bar time. Set your clocks on arrival ladies and Gentlemen. 2008 will be taking place 2 hours earlier than previously scheduled. Please rave using Ibiza Mean Party Time, it's GMT -2.

Ibiza Rocks don't think it will affect them. They've got their own hotel to go back to. And the Manumission crew already moved away from after-hours at Space and into early evening gigs ahead of the rest of us. Did they know something we didn't? Amnesia thinks so. They are virtually rebuilding the club to accommodate them. We predict DJ bickering over who gets to play on the new terrace this year for sure across all the nights, with it's giant stage and elongated bar running down one side. It's a hot new look for what was already a beautiful room. Poor, poor Made In Italy get a whole night back after being rudely shoved aside last year, they fill the space of Wednesdays, and no doubt they'll have plans for that stage too. The Italian Manu vs. the real Manu…with a filling of Cream. Cocoon will have to get a whole lot freakier to compete with all the action at the club. Superfreq-y even? And What's Up with that if it is?

It's still 5 months away and anything can happen. More importantly, we know now that anything will happen. The unwritten law book of Ibiza was flagrantly torn up and discarded last summer (see below) so be prepared to be surprised. The only thing we know is that we know nothing. Just remember, this time last year we thought DC10 was closed forever and Mathew Johnson was the only decent DJ in Canada.

The Unwritten Laws of Ibiza (that were casually broken last year):

1. Manumission will never leave Privilege.  (They went to Amnesia after an almighty Aug 3rd row, which led to Privilege locking the club doors on a Friday night and refusing to let the event go ahead)

2. The police have no power over Amnesia. (Police and local government closed Amnesia for 1 month last summer after accusation of condoning drug dealing on their premises)

3. Space opens on the first weekend of June and closes on the last Sunday of September. (2007 saw Space open and close 1 week earlier after requests from the Tourism Board on the island in order to extend the summer season)

4. Bora Bora gets away with dancing on beach all day because of the owners connections.(The Playa D'en Bossa beach bar also had its music equipment taped up after complaints regarding drugs)

5. Fritz Pangratz is the only man that can run Space. After 15 years with the club Juan Arena took the reins with little or no difference… although admittedly, the jury would like another season before declaring on this particular case.

Everything written above is pure speculation and vicious gossip and iBIzA ViCe would like to emphasis that it is blatant rumour-mongering like this that keeps the fires of the island burning, so fan the flames baby, fan the flames...
