The parties where you need to be...
To this day I can't hear the word Miami without immediately hearing Will Smith's voice in my head booming "welcome to Miiiiami" and the answering chorus of beautiful women in bikinis crooning "bienvenidos a Meeeeyami." Luckily, there's the Winter Music Conference: one weekend of the year when Miami dances to a different beat (though you'll be pleased to hear girls in bikinis are still very much in evidence).
Below, in our list of the hottest electronic parties at the WMC, you'll find the antidote to every cheese-on-toast Miami stereotype. Forget lycra and rollerblades, Colin Farrell in the dreadful Miami Vice remake, Don Johnson in the dreadful Miami Vice original, not to mention Paris, Li-Lo, J-Lo and the rest. For a few brief days the city is ours. Invade their bars, seduce their beach bunnies, most of all: show them dance music doesn't have to be dumb. Here are the parties where you need to be.

Ovum Vs Poker Flat: Miami Special An international talent showcase you'd be a fool to miss: native son Josh Wink goes head to head with German Poker champ Steve Bug with a supporting cast including Greece's Argy, Shlomi Aber from Israel, Martin Landsky and Benny Rodrigues. Venue: The Vagabond |

Dig Deeper: The Miami Annual Danny Howells. We wish he hadn't swapped his Hawaiian shirts (fun, knowing) for skinny jeans and waistcoats (trite, try-hard) but at least he has impeccable taste in music. Those lucky enough to make his first-ever American Dig Deeper party will be treated to a seven-hour set which - if his gloriously eclectic compilations are any indicator - will be one of the highlights of the Conference. Freak n' Chic Showcase Taking their stylish French sound to the land that brought you "freedom fries" are Dan Ghenacia plus a selection of label regulars including Jamie Jones, Shonky, Marc Antona (live), Droog & Lee Foss (Discrete resident). Dubfire+Traktor Scratch present Sci + Tec Dubfire's conversion to the underground has been a hot topic of conversation in our interview section but the proof is in the mixing.
