There was never a "Question" in most people's minds that Dyed Soundorom would come up with the goods when he finally got himself in the studio.
There was also no Question about who would release his first EP - Dan Ghenacia's Freak n' Chic label and Dyed have been inseparable since their early days raving together at Batofar. Dyed has been developing his art for most of the last decade; from fledgling promoter of the infamous React parties at Les Bains Douche, via Ibiza seasons hosting Laurent Garnier at Amnesia, back to the Parisian underground scene with Kwality and aforementioned Batofar. The only Question was when this amiable, talented and music-obsessed party machine would step behind the desk himself...
The first track here is a foot tapper-and-head nodder with a spooky killer riff running through. Years of after-hour partying have obviously paid off. This is what you would play in an illicit late night den with smoke billowing around the dancefloor like the single-lyric vocal echoes around the vacuum space in your head at that time of day. Questions? …Plenty. But this may be the answer.
On the flip Infection continues the word play. (Did you know that most Latin words ending in -ion are the same in French, English and Spanish?) A nod to '90s Italo house kicks off this bouncy piece of programming. Stretched pad dub sounds ooze from the speakers before the pace picks up with a more disco-inspired groove. The BPM count is lower than you'd expect, but the combination of vocal samples and acid stabs suggest rave is really back. In any case, by halfway through you're lost in the sheer busyness of the track. Vocals, melody lines, synths overlap in a proliferation of sound, less diseased than completely contagious. If this is infection I'll have a dose please.
It's a mature and brave sound from a first time producer. The only Question really is how much better he can get…
