At this very moment in record label offices, DJ booking agencies and assorted media outlets industry movers and shakers are vying with colleagues and buttering up the boss as they frantically angle for a coveted jaunt to the International Music Summit. You would be too, if you know what was on offer at Ibiza's inaugural assembly of the great and good of the dance music world….
Running from 28 May-1 June (aka Opening Weekend) the IMS aims to bring together the elite of the industry to discuss the special triumphs and challenges of the 21st century digital world - all in a setting of frankly stupendous luxury.
A long list of panellists from across the media, management, booking, artist and promotion world include Andrea Pelino from Circoloco, Pacha Mag founder Ben Turner, Francois K, Manumission's Andy McKay Ibiza Voice's own Samuel Guetta, and many, many more. Not that these dedicated foot-soldiers of dance music need any encouragement to gather to discuss such serious and pressing topics as "Does Dance Music Need A Ruling Body?", "Dance Music In India", and "Financial Investment In Dance" but surely they won't object to five-star accommodation at Hotel Fenicia, nor to glitzy soirees including a Pete Tong hosted bash at Pikes, an exclusive Pioneer Pool Party and a night of hedonism at ultra-luxurious agroturismo Can Atzaro.
But then, if you can't mix business and pleasure in Ibiza, where can you? What better way - say the founders of the event - to both appreciate and exploit the rich cultural heritage of the island then to sample both sides of its life: the wild and the work-a-day?
Best of all, after three busy days of meetings, keynote speeches, networking breakfasts and lunches, seminars, workshops and arduous partying the delegates have an open invite to three of the most anticipated events of the season: Pure Pacha opening on 30 May, Ibiza Rocks Hotel opening on 31 May and the big one: Space opening fiesta on 1 June. Like they say, it's a dirty job, but someone has to do it.
