When we revealed the plans for Tiesto's 'In Search of Sunrise' Monday night at Privilege this summer, plans was very much the operative word.

Yet, even in the current climate, the combination of the "world's biggest club ™" and the world's most high profile DJ is proving to be one of the success stories of the summer. Naturally, we wanted to know just why hordes of people have been making the trip to Sant Rafel every week.

I'll admit that the thought of a night of trance, Tiesto and Privilege didn't really set my pulse racing, yet paradoxically, it was such a mindset that laid the foundation for a surprisingly enjoyable night. In fact, when I say enjoyable, it was actually rockin'!

Filling the gap that Manumission made infamous up until a few years ago,Tiestohas rediscovered the best part of 10,000 punters who have seemingly been floating around on a Monday night for the last few years wondering what to do with themselves.

The magnitude of Privilege is well known, but the energy generated from such an expansive arena is unique and rarely seen; unlike any other club arena in Ibiza or the world, I dare say. Moreover, the colossal scale provides the perfect stage for Tiesto - we're talking about a DJ used to filling stadiums for his performances after all.

Trance is somewhat of a dirty word in the "cooler" circles of the dance music world, but here this when I tell you that the 8000 plus people at Privilege couldn't care less. And that attitude transcended throughout the night; it was carefree and proud with just a hint of the youthful clubbing exuberance that places like Cocoon and Circo Loco are devoid of.

It is that type of first timer naivety, often the source of mockery on the underground scene, which really connected with me because I, like many, learnt my clubbing stripes that way.

So when Glenn Morrison's'No Sudden Moves' and Deadmau5's 'Not Exactly' were coupled together, damn right I had my hands in the air! Then, after some entertaining crowd participation for the 2008 version of 'Infinity' by Guru Josh, came the highlight of the night for me, the epic UNKLE remix of 'F.E.A.R' by Ian Brown. Happy days!

And as much as I loved it every time Luciano kicked in the base at Cocoon the week before, it was just hard not to be caught up in the multitude of hands in the air moments and spine tingling breakdowns. It was during one such breakdown that a magic spark of 'Oakey in the courtyard' proportions sent me back 10 years to my formative years in the halcyon days of Cream.

For fear of dancing, god forbid a dance music reviewer ever do that (!), I disappeared to the VIP where the true enormity of Privilege really becomes apparent. However unsophisticated the thought process when Privilege added the roof in the early 90s, it has created an aircraft hangar of an arena, the true majesty of which has only truly come to light with the Tiesto shows. The production is like nothing else I've seen before in Ibiza, the focal point being a giant screen behind the DJ console, which brings a whole new dimension to the multisensory experience.

As for Tiesto, not once during the night did I get a hint of the arrogance for which he is sometimes accused. He simply epitomised what any DJ should be all about, playing the records they love, that make people dance…..and then some. Bravo Tiesto!
