By day, he's a shrewd businessman; a label owner, a promoter. By night, he's a party animal. Ask anyone who's had the pleasure - the Frankfurt firestarter is a true demon behind the decks. He's not shy of a good session or two, either.

"To be honest, after the closing parties I just want to escape," he purrs with his distinctive German twang. He sounds more relaxed than usual, each word measured and thoughtful. It's taken us three weeks to track him down, and he's keen to explain why.  

"I've been enjoying some rare quiet time," he laughs. "I'm doing this Indian health cure called ayurveda, it's a tradition that's over 5000 years old and is based around your biorhythms. There are different therapies you can try, I suggest to anybody that they check it out, it's very complex but it's amazing." 

Wiki fingers primed, I Voice adheres to Vath's advice. Translating to 'the science of life', it's an ancient practice of achieving perfect balance and clarity in your mind, body and soul. The deepest of detoxes, if you will, it's been Sven's secret weapon for many years. 

"after Ibiza I just want silence for a few weeks! I've also given up alcohol from September to January. It helps me to recharge my batteries."

Who can blame him? Especially after this year - widely regarded as one of the most satisfying must-do missions of the island, from June 16th to September 29th Sven played ringmaster in a session that saw 16 weeks of mayhem at Amnesia. Playfully titled Disco Invaders, Sven, flanked by Ricardo Villalobos and Richie Hawtin, were joined by what reads as a who's who of technolites… Matthew Dear, Gaiser, Steve Bug, Loco Dice, Guy Gerber, Tobi Neumann, Alter Ego, Johnny D, Tiefschwarz, Magda, Luciano. The list goes on.

The party was so successful, in fact, Vath's invasion scored Cocoon the title of Best Night at the recent DJ Awards. Not only that, but the Best Set award was picked up by Luciano & Ricardo Villalobos and Best Techno DJ was given to Cocoon resident Hawtin. "It was a very very successful year in Ibiza for us," he beams. "It really was the bomb. A breathtaking atmosphere at every party. I think we have established ourselves so well that we're leading the club sound on the island. We won awards and featured lots of exciting new talent as well - Reboot, Jhonny D and Villalobos playing live for the first time." 

As Cocoon's beats still echo around our minds, and Sven's body does its detox thing, we're treated to a fix to keep us going throughout the long cold months before Ibiza opens its arms once again. Sound Of The 9th Season is out now on Cocoon, and it works as an apt teaser for what's to come while reminding us of beats gone by; "I use my time in the sky to create the mix," says Sven. "When I fly around the world, I think the about the music in my mind. I mix it in my mind, and once I've done that I'll check it all out, make sure it fits and record it. It's a nice way to end the summer." 

The end of the summer, perhaps, but things never end at Cocoon HQ;  as Sven completes his Indian healing, his mind on the next big party. Or should that be parties? "I'm really looking forward to the Amore festival," he says eagerly. "I was in Napoli last weekend and I remembered how much I love the dancefloors of Italy. New Years Eve is especially cool for me this year because I've got a double booking, I'm playing in Rome, then I'm playing a special late night set in Frankfurt. Can I roll home? I hope so!"  

From chilled, measured and thoughtful to mischievous, impish and itching to move, Sven's life is indeed one of contrast...
