Inspired by something he read in a magazine, Dubfire summarised the two most important factors in mankind's development in the 21st century when he named his label; science and technology.

Unwittingly he also created one of the dancefloor's most enduring success stories in the last two years.

What began as a digital imprint to release his own big room techno releases and support all the new music he was unearthing on his seemingly endless world tour, SCI+TEC swiftly became one of the most talked about labels in techno history… Traditional techno fans were dubious - can anything this good really come from one half of the stadium-packing Deep Dish? The techno curious, however, were instantly addicted. With many of the releases (including Dubfire's debut 'Roadkill') harbouring house elements, it was the perfect transition from the cosier, funkier world of house into the darker, moodier territory of techno.

Dubfire, however, puts all the label's success down to the quality of his artists. "When I look back at how long it took Sharam and I to establish DDR and Yoshitoshi, it does feel like the recognition is premature," he explains. "But these days, releasing music faster has never been easier so while it does feel as though we've just launched, we have managed to build a great worldwide profile and consistency of quality. And it's really about the artists and remixers who have been involved; they're the ones who are responsible for SCI+TEC's rapid success."

Humble and passionate about the music; while this is obviously key to Dubfire's success in general, in terms of his label his attitude has helped it become the beast it has. Describing it as a "labour of love", the only drawback for Dubfire is the amount of hours he has in the day. "Time is my number one enemy," he laughs. "And we can only release so many records every year, but I do try to listen to everything I'm given. The one suggestion that I'd make to artists out there is to put a maximum of two tracks - and make it their two top tracks - on a demo CD."
