For someone so young, Makam is an old hand hustler. At 22, he has a pocket full of releases and has already been championed by the likes of Ricardo Villalobos and Raresh. This Dutch DJ doesn't do watered down beats and repetitive melodies like so many of the other house acts out there.

Dropping the New York Hustler EP hard on the Sushitech Purple imprint, this wont put a crack on the dance floor but a dazzling dent, it will.

If you enjoyed the chemical rush of The Hague (Kabale and Lauhaus Remix) then this is something new to try. Although a slow starter, this track builds progressively and is quietly addictive. Layering organic percussions between soft keys and loosely strung chords, it gives a shout out to the underground house movement of the 80's.  This is low-tempo compared to the energy and acid that used to flow out of Chicago. Yet it's warm and jazzy and the vocal snips will lift your mood higher than the Empire State Building.

On the B side, New York G has the sort of dance floor stamina to make it through until the autumn break. Makam is well trained in the use of big kicks and lush chords and this is bound to cause a summer heat wave. Whether you play this for background or early afternoon dancefloor, its vintage vibe will have you digging out your disco moves in a flash. Floor spins and thrusts that will leave your disco balls in a daze just try and stop yourself.

Dreaming away will make you freak out. Firstly because it sounds like P.Diddy is about to take over another dance track. Secondly, because this track is just too funky. Thankfully not who we first expected, the soulful sexy New Yorker that appears on this track soothes and smoothes you into a dreamland. The sample crowd noises are at the peak of this production and transport you to a rooftop pool party where daiquiris are flowing by the dozen.  This is a slower jam but it's full of soul. Hold on tight to your disco flares because there's an album planned for late 2009.
