Having left his progressive house days firmly in his wake, it's been a joy to watch Steve Lawler emerge from the techno shadows. Since founding his own digital label, Viva Music in 2006, his stock has risen so much so he is now a We Love resident and often referred to by his fans as the '"King of Space", as opposed to simply another guest Dj.

Just like Steve's career, Viva has followed a parallel journey. These days, Viva host productions from some of techno's most prominent stars, be it UK duo Audiofly, emerging talents Livio and Roby or Plastik producer Simon Baker.

Constantly showcasing their sound around the globe, Viva have played with Cadenza at the 2009 WMC, as well as regular appearances around the globe, taking in every city from London to Romania with their warm techno sound, with Steve's 2008 Viva Toronto mixed CD, being on of his most revered mix albums to date.

Steve's ethos for the label was simple, stating that he wanted to "set up a quality digital label with low running costs so the resources can actually be spent on developing artists and music that I truly believe in." It's a career move which appears to have worked wonders so far, earning them props from Dj's, punters and producers. It seems then, that Steve has certainly found his sound. As the man says himself, the music he endorses is "sleazy" and "filthy." One things for sure; Viva Music and the punters are all better off as a result.
