After nine Contakt performances around the world last year and the fastest selling London date in M_nus history, we thought it was about time Mr Hawtin and the rest of his minimal techno crew showed face for 2009.
Even though the crew were said to be exhausted after last years blow-out success, you'll be happy to hear they've decided to throw a special one-off party at London's 4500-capacity O2 Brixton Academy on Saturday 26th September. It's the only Contakt show in the world this year and tickets are already on sale so don't get your techno pants in a twist, get a ticket and don't miss this.
The chances are if you live in Detroit, Amsterdam, Berlin or of course London, where last years fiasco at SEOne turned out to be a roadblock event, then you will have already witnessed the M_nus mash up of visuals, sound and communication. Thanks to ‘The Cube' last year, ravers (members only) could let themselves be known to the Berlin based crew by sending messages to the LED system as well as gaining access to exclusive tracks, the chance to upload upload demos and win some quality gear, including Native Instruments' Traktor Scratch System. All very impressive but that's what Hawtin does best, he chews and spits out the barriers between DJ and audience, even if it does look a tad over the top to some.
So after celebrating ten years of Hawtin's M_nus imprint and the parties last year causing more than a stir, this time we can expect more. You'll still be getting a synchronised ‘as one' techno showdown where the DJs all merge to play together, sticking their finger up at the restrictive DJ set, where one artist plays after another. Only this time, you'll be getting more of the M_nus crew taking part. Expect a rotating showcase of the roster's artists: Magda, Troy Pierce, Marc Houle, Heartthrob, Gaiser, JPLS, Ambivalent, Barem and, of course, Mr Hawtin.
There's no doubt, Berlin's reputation for being at the centre of audio experimentation rests proudly on the shoulders of DJs such as Hawtin and the M-nus stable. If you missed out last year then check out what all the fuss is about on 26th September as the gang heighten the sense of touch, sight and most importantly the sound of minimal techno in a one-off melodic meltdown.
