BerMuDa - Berlin Music Days 16.09 - 19.09Hard as it is to believe, Berlin has never actually held it's own conference style event to rival Miami's WMC, Amsterdam's increasingly popular ADE or even Ibiza's IMS. So say hello to Berlin Music Days of for short, BerMuDa, a brand new four day conference-style event geared to grant the cities legions of techno obsessives one last chance to don the rave gear before bracing themselves for the chillier seasons.

Taking place from September 16th-19th, it's aim is to "break free" from the outdated structures of the cancelled Popkomm. In contrast to Popkomm, which was conceived as a trade fair for industry insiders, every aspect of the BerMuDa is open to the public. The idea makes sense, not least because so many Dj's/producers/promoters etc. call Berlin home.

BerMuDa will see all of Berlin's most renowned night haunts working in synergy to create something which could transpire to be truly memorable. Location wise, think Berghain, Tresor, Maria, Watergate, Icon, Club der Visionaere, as well as Richie Hawtin's Saturday Adventure Club in the brilliantly German sounding Postbahnhof. Sounds impressive? Wait till you hear the line up. It's so good, it's frankly ridiculous that so many of techno's leading lights should be in the same city on the same week.

Kicking things off on a Wednesday isn't ideal, and with M.A.N.D.Y., Dj T., Heidi and Italoboyz presenting a Get Physical label showcase in Watergate, the temptation to pull a sicky on Thursday morning looks very inviting. Still, we're giving you ample time to prepare your excuses or alternatively book holidays and throw in the towel job wise. Who needs a career anyway?! And with Dj Hell presenting his Gigolo imprint at WMF on the same night, the dole may well soon be viewed as an altogether more promising prospect.

Thursday sees things slowing down a small bit, acting albeit, as the calm before the storm. If you're still up for hitting the town, (or haven't been to bed yet) it's probably best you leg it back down to Watergate again, where the surprisingly decent Hot Chip Dj's are holding court alongside Upon. You/Souvenir's records Ruede Hagelstein. There's a also a host of other lesser known Dj's showcasing their talents around the city which are also worth checking out, So DO go off the beaten track and explore the city as best you see fit.Berlin Music Days

Friday however, is when BerMuda really comes to life. Steve Bug's "Poker Flat" will be present at Berghain, where Steve will be playing alongside Dj pals D'julz and Josh Wink among others. If techno is too much for you, may we suggest the electrohouse sounds of Busy P's "Ed Banger" imprint, which are being represented by Vicarious Bliss and friends at Icon. If techno is however your bag, don't overlook Mathew Jonson's "Wagon Repair" showcase, where you'll witness Cobblestone Jazz's infamous live set, as well as appearances from Konrad Black and Seth Troxler. That's at Watergate by the way. To reiterate, it's on the same night as the Poker Flat night at Berghain, so if you're hitting Berlin in a large group, it's probably best you flick coins now. And just to turn your location that evening in to an even more enviable predicament, Bpitch Control will be represented at WMF on the same night, with Zander VT and Ryan Elliot joining Ellen Allien on the decks. Some choices eh?

Never one to be upstaged however, the Saturday, almost inevitably belongs to a certain Mr. Hawtin and his Minus apostles. Taking place at the Postbahnhof, it is, in fairness to the BurMuda, undoubtedly the highlight of the four days and a very nice way to culminate preceedings. With the fair coming to a close at this party with guests of the calibre of Minus' Magda and Marco Carola, Desolat's Martin Buttrich , Loco Dice, Mobilee's Anja Schneider and Pan-Pot as well as Innervisons Dixon and Henrik Schwarz, BerMuDa has the makings of a fair which is here to stay. Though the organisers have kept the day time events fairly under wraps, it'll more than likely be a usual blend of guest note speakers and workshops. Just remember where you heard it first!
