If there's one man who encapsulates Leeds' contemporary penchant for all things tech-house, its Simon Baker. After a series of well received releases on dance music's most pivotal labels (namely Cocoon, Get Physical, Viva and 2020 Vision) Baker's percussion-heavy, dance floor driven productions have earned him an impressive reputation as one of the scenes most recent success stories. In 2005, Simon set up his own label, Infant, the home of arguably his most successful track to date. The track in question? Plastik, an electro/tech house smash which soon found favour on coveted compilations from ex rockers Simian Mobile Disco to UK taste purveyor Ewan Pearson.

In true dance music fashion though, Simon is evidently thirsty for more success. And despite all that name dropping in the past paragraph, it's a task we feel he's more than capable of achieving through his own production work and heavy Dj schedule which has seen the English man play a host of some of the world's most impressive night haunts.

His latest EP, the Moonblock/Mamaia Highway EP is typical Baker fare, already given the thumbs up I Voice office and 2010 promises even bigger things. Clearly a man in demand then, but do you know his biggest fear and his favourite place to play? Suffice to say....we do. Simon Baker....we salute you!

Leeds (UK)

Were you happy as a child?
I was a bit naughty and happy!

How much did your childhood help you in becoming an artist?
Lots... i discovered music properly at about the age of 10 or 11. Found electronic music was the one for me very early on.

Do you believe in fate / God?
i guess i do talk about fate and Karma, so suppose i do to a degree yes.

What or who is the biggest inspiration in your life?
i honestly don't have one, everything and everyone around me inspires.

Children, yes or no?
No, not ready.... one day.

Who is your idol and why?
Again, i don't have one. I don't tend to look up to anyone in particular, but do i respect many!!

What's the weirdest thing you ve done to play at a gig?
break danced with midgets in rah rah skirts!

Which artist or track did you think was no good but became successful?
does it have to be house/techno....because if not.........MIKA !! Awful.

One thing you hate about dance music culture.?
Up their arse wankers who think their music is the better than anyone else's even though it probably isn't. It's just them who think it is.

Best friends in the music business?
Jamie Jones, Matt Tolfrey, Burnski, Ralph Lawson, Alex Flitsh, Clive Henry, Geddes and many others who will no doubt see this and say "OI, why wasn't i in the list!"

Your biggest fear?
All this ending tomorrow and having to go back to a mundane real job.

Last club you went to party at, rather than to play?!
Sub club in Glasgow. i loved it. i will put it up there as one of my favorites.

After hours; yes or no?
Abso-fuckin-lutely !

Penny pincher or big spender?
Hmm, somewhere in the middle i like to think!

If you were interviewing yourself, what question would you ask and what would the answer be.:
Are you an all round trustworthy nice guy who will always think of others first and never be a dick? OH YES, OF COURSE ;) thats me.
