Founded in 2005 by Berliners Anja Schneider and Ralf Kollmann, mobilee records has since emerged as one of the city's biggest players in a city with an obvious abundance of impressive music labels. With Anja constantly rocking dance floors across the globe with her trademark soundtrack of dark techno, the label has perhaps inevitably gained particular significance in dance music circles for releasing innovative sounding tracks with serious attitude.
Innovation you see, has played an integral role in the rise of mobilee records. Which is exactly why you'll find Ralf Kollman bringing his notorious 'Excuse the Mess' party to South Africa in October. Yes, it's hardly a hotbed for electronic music, but then the mobilee crew aren't your conventional imprint for that matter.
Artists that have released for the label read like a who's who of the Berlin underground sound, with Exercise One, And.id, Marco Resmann, Pan-Pot, Sebo K and Anja herself all contributing in recent times.
Tracks like Sebo K's 'Diva' soon established itself as one of 2008's defining tracks, and the same fate may well befall Pan-Pot's 'Confronted', a proper heavy techno work out that's already cropping up in various Dj charts. That two very different tracks can be signed to the same label further emphasises mobilee's dedication to quality, underground sounding music.
Essentially then, the genre is of no paramount importance. So long as the track can move the dance floor, there is a place for it on this most impressive imprint. With GummiHz's 'Sleepless Nights' promising great things, the label shows no sign of slowing down either. Here's to hoping they keep up the good work.
