NYE 2010 From East 2 West...

For all its detractors, you can't beat New Year's Eve for having a legitimate excuse for getting right on it.

Naturally, promoters worldwide clamber to come up with original line-ups and concepts but usually end up just getting the mastercard out and wincing at the number of zeros that have suddenly appeared on Mr. Joe Average's DJ fee.

Anyway, the most annoying thing about NYE is how the glamorous looking event starring your favourite jock and taking place in some exotic far flung location winds you up for the whole month of December before you admit defeat and realise you're going to the local boozer and will be in bed before midnight actually arrives.

Well listen, it's not too late to bring the decade to a spectacular end and say thanks for the memories to the noughties. So, reminiscent of Carl Cox in 1999 - who travelled back over the international date line from Australian New Year to celebrate another Millenium Dawn in Hawaii - we're taking things one step further and chasing the arrival of 2010 in I Voice's choice New Year's Eve parties.

NYE  2010
From east to west, from shore to shore...

Australia
Australia
Shore Thing at Bondi Beach, Sydney
2ManyDJs, who will no doubt be receiving an astronomical fee for their services, headline the biggest event in Melbourne entitled "Killer: NYE at Palace Theatre but Sydney is the place to be. 10 years later, Carl Cox returns to the scene of his Millenium crime to see in the New Year alongside Danny Tenaglia and Roger Sanchez. In terms of DJ legends, it doesn't come much bigger than that. On New Year's Day, any DJ within shouting distance will be at the annual Summadayze Festival in Melbourne, including Coxy and DT again.
Japan
Japan
Countdown to 2010 at Air, Tokyo
What a treat if you're in Tokyo for a special Satoshi Tomiie 'Opening to Closing set', upwards of 8 hours, at Air. Def Mix buddy Hector 'Baby Hec' Romero also appears as well as Radio Slave, the one man walking production unit and easily one of the most interesting artists in the scene at the moment.
Singapore
Singapore
Chronicles of Dance NYE at Zouk Club
Zouk has long been a badge of honour for DJs and clubbers alike and for their New Year celebrations, none other than Basement Jaxx will be bringing the house down with their typical crossover/mash-up eclecticism.
Russia
Russia
Ricardo Villalobos at Arma 17
WOW! You lucky, lucky people. Señor Ricardo, Zip and Margaret Dygas amongst others will explode you into 2010 at this club where the main room is a monumentally sized room for storing gas.
Hungary
Hungary
NYE 2009 - Budapest at Budapest Sportarena
This big momma of an arena is where Sensation White have held their parties previously and for New Year investment has again been made for an interesting event featuring Darren Emerson, Paul Woolford and Infusion. Nick Warren also plays continuing the connection with the city that was the inspiration for his classic Global Underground 11 mix.
Italy
Italy
M-nus NYE at Cocorico, Rimini
'Ye Olde Plastik One' will be taking the relentless M-nus roadshow to arguably the most partisan fanbase of the his label's sound. Joining Richie will be Gaiser, Fabrizio Maurizi and Ricky Montanari.
Berlin
Berlin
New Years Eve at Watergate
A whole host of events to pick from in Berlin, including the whole Berghain family for the Ostgut Ton Club Night at the world's No.1 club. But we've picked out the Watergate party just to be different and because every Berliner and his doughnut will be trying to get into Berghain. Instead, not far away, Tiefschwarz, MyMy, Kiki and the wonderful Luna City Express for your aural Silvester, as the Germans call it, pleasure.
Frankfurt
Frankfurt
Fast Forward 2010 at Cocoon Club
Papa Sven brings his 10 year Ibiza anniversary year to a close, back home at Cocoon Club in Frankfurt, with one of the stars of the scene in 2009, Joris Voorn, whose Balance 014 compilation will surely be recognised as a true dance music classic down the ages. Karotte, Nima Gorji and C-Rock also play.
Amsterdam
Amsterdam
Evotions presents: NYE 2010 at The Powerzone
Massive is the only word that can be used to describe this. Massive club in the massive party city that is Amsterdam, massive line up of the massively influential Derrick May and DJ Sneak, who is just massive in every sense of the word.
Spain
Spain
Space of Sound Sps 2010 at Telefónica Arena, Madrid
While Sammy Dee and Kollektiv Turmstrasse ensure the intrigue continues around Wip, a new club in Barcelona that is rapidly becoming a mini-Berlin in the heart of Catalonia - they've had Bar 25, Watergate and Tape Club events here in the last few months - Madrid always does New Year in style. The annual Space of Sound New Year's Day bash held at the Telefonica Arena is the place to be. This year the carnage includes a M-nus Area with Hawtin leading the charge from Rimini, more techno in the Klubbers Area with Chris Liebing, Tiga and Ellen Allien and finally, a rather expensive looking roster in the Space of Sound Area with Sasha, Groove Armada, Deadmau5 and Steve Lawler. Have it!!
London
London
Cocoon at Matter
Busy, busy, busy in the smoke, with a monster Ministry event at the O2 starring Deadmau5, Prydz, Justice and Calvin Harris, a Fabric special for the heads with Andy 'Wevvers' Weatherall and Ivan Smagghe and top quality DJs playing at various events around the capital such as Magda (T-Bar), Luke Solomon (Café 1001), Steve Bug (Eastern Electrics), Funkagenda (Pacha), Simian Mobile Disco (Brixton Academy) and Horse Meat Disco (Cargo). But come on, where else matters but matter as the 'Papa Sven Love Boat' docks at the Greenwich club to continue his brand's residency, joined by the fucking brilliant Cassy, Andre Galluzzi, Yousef and Matt Tolfrey. For the hardcore ravers, matter will tempt you again on New Year's Day with the Romanian miminal mafia roll into town or if you don't fancy Arpiar, one of London's best parties has Nick Curly as guest, Fuse at 93 Feet East on Brick Lane is one you'll regret if you don't go.
Brazil
Brazil
Gui Boratto & Michael Mayer at Warung Beach Club, Itajaí
Two men with so much talent that if you're lucky enough, or have brilliantly planned, to be there, then don't be surprised if you come away feelingtotally inspired. The Kompakt famliy do Brazil on New Year's Day.
Argentina
Argentina
Paolo Mojo at Pacha, Buenos Aires
I wonder if Paolo Mojo would have booked to play in one of Latin America's most cherished dancefloors if he'd stuck to with his real name (Paul Bimson) when becoming a DJ/producer. Hmmmm, anyway, he is the guest at Pacha Buenos Aires, which is hands down the best Pacha club in the world.
New York
New York
Blk|Market New Year's Eve Bash at Secret Location
As you'd expect, there are host of events in the Big A with Paul Van Dyk at the Roseland Ballroom and Omar-S at Market Hotel, but it's cool as fuck promoters Blk|Market who are our pick. They host a secret location event featuring a 5 hour set from Dj Koze on his US debut, as well as Markus Fix, Shaun Reeves and Ryan Crosson. Tasty!
Los Angeles
Los Angeles
Avalon NYE 2010 at Avalon
Some massive parties going off in LA, with Boys Noize at the Hollywood Palladium and Guetta, Digweed and Dubfire just a few of those appearing at the Together As One party at the LA Sports Arena. Good times are always guaranteed at Avalon though and Sander Kleinenberg, Steve Lawler and particularly Guy Gerber will make sure this New Year Eve is no exception.
